Junior Associate Counsel (Real Estate & Operations)

Piru Group, Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, 87101

Save Job

Piru Group is a forward-thinking real estate investment and development firm. We handle everything from complex title issues to new construction and affordable housing.

We are looking for a

Junior Associate Counsel

to join our team. We don’t need a courtroom gladiator on Day 1—we have outside counsel for that. We need a smart, organized, and tech-savvy attorney to build the legal foundation that wins cases before they even get to trial.

Your job is to handle the heavy lifting: drafting motions, conducting deep legal research, managing filings, and leveraging AI tools to make our legal operations faster and smarter. This is the perfect role for a recent law school graduate who wants to master the mechanics of real estate law and eventually grow into a litigator.

What You Will Do

Drafting & Preparation:

You will write the first drafts of motions, pleadings, demand letters, and contracts. You get the documents 90% of the way there before our external lead counsel reviews them.

Legal Operations:

Manage the docket. Ensure every document is formatted correctly and filed on time in the New Mexico e-filing system.

AI & Research:

Use AI tools and legal databases to research case law, summarize statutes, and generate document templates efficiently. We expect you to use technology to punch above your weight class.

Case Management:

Organize facts, timelines, and evidence for our complex real estate disputes (Quiet Title, Foreclosure, Contracts).

Growth:

Shadow our senior external counsel and the Principal. Over time, as you master the paperwork, you will be trained to handle hearings and courtroom arguments.

What We Are Looking For

J.D. & Bar Admission:

Must be admitted to the New Mexico Bar (or currently awaiting exam results).

Tech-Savvy:

You must be comfortable using AI (LLMs) to streamline legal research and drafting. We value efficiency and innovation over "the old way" of doing things.

Strong Writer:

You can write clearly, concisely, and persuasively.

Detail-Oriented:

You understand that a single missed deadline or formatting error can hurt a case.

Real Estate Interest:

Prior real estate experience is a plus, but not required. If you are smart and willing to learn the industry, we will teach you the rest.

Why This Role?

Real Training:

Instead of being pigeonholed in document review at a big firm, you will see how a real estate business actually works.

Modern Environment:

We embrace technology. You won't be stuck using outdated systems.

Career Path:

We want to help you grow from a legal researcher into a fully capable real estate attorney.
