Want to help everyday Americans invest and build wealth? Financial inequality is increasing, and too many people are getting left behind. At Stash, we are passionate about democratizing wealth creation through education, advice, and products that help customers achieve greater financial freedom.

Stash is seeking a Director, AML Compliance who will also serve as the designated AML Compliance Officer for Stash’s broker‑dealer entity. This leader will own and evolve our enterprise AML/BSA program. This leader will set strategy, oversee execution, and ensure our AML framework scales with Stash’s products, customer base, and regulatory footprint.

This is a senior, highly visible role with direct influence over product launches, risk appetite, regulatory interactions, and cross‑functional decision‑making. You’ll partner closely with Legal, Product, Engineering, Operations, Data, Fraud and Executive Leadership to embed financial crime risk management into how Stash builds and grows.

What you'll do:

Own Stash’s AML/BSA compliance program end‑to‑end, ensuring alignment with the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and SEC/FINRA requirements

Serve as a senior AML leader and key advisor to executive leadership on financial crime risk, regulatory expectations, and program maturity

Set AML strategy and roadmap, balancing regulatory rigor with a scalable, tech‑enabled fintech business model

Oversee transaction monitoring, investigations, SAR governance, and escalation frameworks across Stash’s investing and banking products

Establish and maintain risk‑based frameworks for customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), continuous monitoring and customer risk rating

Partner with Product and Engineering to design AML controls for new products, features, and customer experiences from ideation through launch

Lead AML risk assessments, independent testing, and remediation efforts, including ownership of findings and regulatory commitments

Act as a primary point of contact for AML‑related regulatory exams, audits, and inquiries

Develop and mentor AML leadership and individual contributors, building a high‑performing compliance organization

Drive data‑driven insights through AML metrics, KRIs, and reporting to senior leadership and the Board

Monitor emerging financial crime risks, fintech trends, and regulatory developments to proactively adapt the AML program

Own AML policies, procedures, and enterprise training programs tailored to Stash’s business model

What we're looking for:

10+ years of AML/BSA compliance experience, including leadership roles within a broker‑dealer, fintech, bank, or regulated financial institution

Deep expertise in BSA/AML, SEC, and FINRA regulatory requirements

Demonstrated experience owning or significantly shaping an AML program at scale

Strong track record partnering with product, engineering, and data teams in a digital‑first environment

Experience leading regulatory exams, audits, and complex remediation efforts

Proven people leader with experience building and scaling teams

Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly to executives and non‑compliance stakeholders

Strategic mindset with the ability to operate hands‑on when needed

CAMS or similar certification strongly preferred

Knowledge of and experience with global business lines

Gold Stars:

Certification in a professional association such as the Association of Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS)

FINRA Series 7 or 24
