Location: Marmon Valley Farm
Season: Begins March 2026
Reports To: Exec. Director, Camp Dir, and Guest Relations Dir
Supervises: Kitchen staff, cooks, food service assistants
Position Summary The Food Service Director is responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing nutritious, safe, and appealing meals for campers and staff throughout the summer season and weekends throughout the year. This role ensures compliance with health regulations, accommodates dietary needs, manages food service staff, and maintains an efficient, welcoming dining operation that supports the overall camp experience.
Key Responsibilities Menu Planning & Nutrition
Plan balanced, age-appropriate menus for campers, staff, and other guests.
Accommodate special dietary needs (limited).
Ensure meals meet nutritional guidelines and camp standards.
Plan menus within established food budgets.
Food Preparation & Service
Oversee daily meal preparation, service, and clean-up.
Ensure food quality, portion control, and timely service.
Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness.
Monitor proper food storage, labeling, and temperature control.
Staff Management
Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen and food service staff.
Foster a positive, teamwork-oriented kitchen environment.
Ensure staff follow safety, sanitation, and camp policies.
Provide guidance and performance feedback as needed.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with local and state health department regulations.
Maintain required documentation (temperature logs, cleaning schedules, allergy protocols).
Coordinate health and safety practices with camp leadership and health staff.
Respond promptly to food-related concerns or incidents.
Inventory & Budget Management
Order food, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Manage inventory to minimize waste and control costs.
Track expenses and operate within the approved food service budget.
Coordinate deliveries and vendor relationships.
Collaboration & Camp Life
Work closely with camp leadership to support camp culture and schedule.
Communicate effectively with counselors and health staff regarding camper needs.
Model professionalism, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Support special events, cookouts, theme meals, and celebrations (Birthdays).
Qualifications Required
Previous experience in food service management, institutional cooking, or large-scale meal preparation.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Experience supervising staff.
Ability to work long hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred
Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent).
Experience working in a camp, school, or youth-serving environment.
Knowledge of allergy management and special diets.
Culinary training or related education.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift 40–50 pounds.
Work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Comfortable working in a residential camp setting (if applicable).
