About the Role
We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our product development team at i3. This role sits at the center of how ideas become real: working closely with Industrial Designers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, and our clients to design thoughtful, manufacturable solutions.
Whether you’re early in your career and excited to learn fast across many industries, or a more senior designer looking for ownership, variety, and influence, this role offers the chance to do meaningful, hands‑on work from concept through production. With in‑house prototyping and a steady stream of diverse projects, you’ll see your designs move quickly from screen to shop floor.
We support our team with strong benefits—including a $0 deductible health plan, meaningful retirement match, and a stock purchase program—so you can focus on doing great work and growing your career.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop mechanical solutions from early concept through production
Create detailed 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver integrated product designs
Work directly with client engineering and manufacturing teams
Apply GD&T principles and perform tolerance stack‑ups as appropriate to the design
Coordinate with tooling and manufacturing vendors
Support and mentor junior designers and engineers (scope based on experience)
Continue building your skills through varied project work and shared learning
Who We’re Looking For
Associate degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent hands‑on experience
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (or comparable CAD tools)
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, machining, and sheet metal fabrication
Working knowledge of GD&T and design‑for‑manufacturing principles
A demonstrated history of keen attention to detail
Clear communicator who works well across disciplines
Comfortable balancing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment
Nice To Have
Experience working directly with clients
Exposure to multiple industries or product types
Track record of seeing products through to launch
Interest in mentoring or technical leadership
Deeper experience (7+ years) owning complex designs end‑to‑end
Why i3 At i3, variety is the norm. You’ll work on dozens of products each year, collaborate with smart, supportive teammates, and have real ownership over your work. We value curiosity, follow‑through, and people who care about both the details and the bigger picture.
Benefits We believe great work is supported by taking care of our people. Our benefits are designed to support your health, stability, and long‑term goals:
Health insurance with a $0 deductible and employee premiums as low as $9 per pay period
