General Description:

As a Marketing Intern with M Food Co., you will support the Director of Marketing & Communications and the Marketing & Sustainability Manager in enhancing the campus dining experience for University of Minnesota students. This internship focuses on hands-on marketing, event planning, sampling activations, retail promotions, and communications work that directly impacts how students and clients engage with M Food Co.'s residential dining halls, retail locations, catering program, and meal plan offerings.

In this role, you will assist in planning and executing residential dining events, support retail and catering promotions through merchandising and sampling, contribute to communications efforts, and assist with light social media content creation. You should be comfortable appearing on camera when needed, capturing content at events, and staying aware of social media trends that resonate with college students.

This internship is ideal for students interested in marketing, communications, hospitality, brand experience, or event management.

Requirements

?

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

?

Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners

?

Customer service mindset and ability to represent the M Food Co. brand

?

Interest in marketing, event planning, communications, sales, or hospitality

?

Comfortable using social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) and aware of current trends

?

Willingness to assist with content capture (photo/video) and occasional on-camera participation

?

Basic graphic design or video editing experience is a plus

?

Experience with website editing (e.g., CMS tools) is a plus

?

Prior marketing, event, hospitality, or promotional experience preferred but not required

Job Responsibilities (May include any or all)

Residential Dining & Student Engagement

Assist with planning, promoting, and executing residential dining hall events

Support on-site event activation, including setup, photography, and staffing engagement tables

Capture photo and video content during events for use on social media and marketing channels

Help brainstorm new ideas to enhance the student dining experience

Retail Promotions & Merchandising

Support retail marketing initiatives, including signage updates, merchandising, and limited-time offer promotions

Plan and execute sampling activations at retail and catering locations to introduce new products, seasonal features, and menu enhancements

Assist with coordinating catering showcase events and promotional tastings for campus clients

Engage guests during sampling events to gather feedback and build brand awareness

Communications & Digital Support

Provide content updates for the Dine on Campus website (hours, menus, promotions, event listings, etc.)

Support internal communication needs for events and promotional campaigns

Meal Plan Marketing

Plan and support events, tabling, and outreach efforts that increase awareness of meal plan benefits

Contribute to marketing strategies that drive meal plan sales and engagement

Assist in developing messages, materials, and campaigns targeted at undergraduate and graduate students

Social Media Support

Assist the marketing team with light content creation and trend-based ideas

Capture behind-the-scenes and event content for use across platforms

Stay informed on emerging social media trends and student engagement strategies

Collaborate with the Social Media Intern to ensure cohesive messaging

General Marketing Support

Collaborate with marketing interns and team members on campaigns and special projects

Assist with administrative, creative, and promotional tasks as needed

Learning Objectives

Gain real-world experience in event planning and management, retail marketing, and student and client engagement

Develop skills in campaign planning, content creation, and digital communications

Learn how to support catering marketing efforts and client-facing activations

Build confidence in professional communication and cross-functional collaboration

Understand how marketing initiatives drive awareness, participation, engagement, and revenue growth

This is a paid intern position; however, it is not eligible for paid time off (PTO) or benefits such as medical, dental, vision, etc.

Because this position requires you to perform services in an educational facility, there may be periods when the Company does not require you to perform work (such as winter and summer breaks when food service needs decline or cease). Any such periods during which you do not perform work on the Company's behalf may be unpaid and deemed a temporary layoff.
