Primary Purpose Of Position The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Relations. The primary responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate level courses, especially in the program’s public relations concentration. An ideal candidate will be expected to create new courses on digital PR and advertising and possess a sound knowledge of the applications of Artificial Intelligence in communication. In addition to teaching major’s core and advanced-level courses, conducting research and grant writing, academic/student advising, mentoring students, participating in student recruitment and curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities, and performing all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, college, and university as needed.

This is a 9‑month tenure‑track position.

Primary Function Of Organizational Unit The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations, all accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has over 430 majors and serves to prepare students for professional and civic life through diversity, interdisciplinary learning, and ethical conduct.

Minimum Requirements • Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, media, or a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline.
