Position Overview The Plumbing Designer supports Freeland’s design-build and plan-spec projects by producing accurate, constructable plumbing designs and models for commercial buildings. This role works closely with project managers, estimators, foremen, and engineering staff to translate design intent into coordinated construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit (including BIM coordination where applicable). The position provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world mechanical construction, emphasizing constructability, field coordination, and compliance with applicable plumbing codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design and draft plumbing systems for commercial building projects using AutoCAD and Revit, with a strong focus on constructability and coordination
Develop plumbing layouts, riser diagrams, details, and models from markups, sketches, and verbal direction
Coordinate plumbing designs with general contractors, architects, consulting engineers, and other trades to resolve conflicts and support BIM coordination efforts
Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field leadership to ensure designs align with project scope, schedule, and installation means and methods
Implement and maintain Freeland’s AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM standards across all assigned projects
Perform back‑checking and quality control of own work with minimal supervision to ensure accuracy and completeness
Assist with design‑build problem‑solving during construction, including adapting designs to field conditions as needed
Support permit submissions and respond to design‑related questions from inspectors, engineers, and project stakeholders
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Working knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and construction practices
Familiarity with the Ohio Plumbing Code and general code application
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; exposure to BIM coordination processes preferred
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both office and field personnel
Proactive approach to coordination, problem‑solving, and task management
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Minimum of two (2) years of AutoCAD and/or Revit experience in a mechanical, plumbing, or construction design field
Prior exposure to commercial mechanical or plumbing construction environments preferred
Work Hours
Full‑time, salaried position classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (flexibility to work additional hours).
Work hours may vary based on project schedules, coordination requirements, and operational needs
