WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN AN SENIOR MEDIA RELATIONS SPECIALIST We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Media Relations Specialist to lead our media relations efforts and drive earned media coverage. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing high-profile media placements through strategic pitching and relationship building. They will also have experience in training spokespeople and managing media events. This role requires a strong understanding of the media landscape, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop and execute effective media strategies that generate significant earned media value.

Key Responsibilities:

Earned Media Strategy Development:

Develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies focused on maximizing earned media coverage and achieving measurable PR outcomes.

Media Pitching and Outreach:

Craft and deliver compelling pitches to journalists and media outlets across various platforms, securing high-impact placements that drive brand awareness and thought leadership.

Spokesperson Training:

Provide media training and coaching to spokespeople within the organization, ensuring they are well-prepared for media interactions and effectively deliver key messages.

Media Event Management:

Plan and execute media events, including press conferences, interviews, and media briefings, maximizing earned media opportunities.

Media Monitoring and Analysis:

Monitor media coverage, track earned media value, and analyze trends to inform future media relations efforts and measure the effectiveness of campaigns.

Crisis Communications:

Assist in developing and executing crisis communications plans, providing media relations support during critical situations, and mitigating negative earned media impact.

Team Leadership:

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior media relations staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment focused on achieving earned media goals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree:

in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.

Extensive Experience:

2-4+ years of experience in media relations or a similar role, with a demonstrated track record of securing high-profile earned media coverage.

Expert Pitching and Storytelling Skills:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling pitches and narratives that resonate with journalists and target audiences, leading to earned media placements.

Strong Media Relationships:

Established relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers across various media platforms, enabling effective earned media outreach.

Media Training Expertise:

Proven experience in providing effective media training and coaching to spokespeople.

Strategic Thinking:

Ability to think strategically and develop creative media relations plans that generate significant earned media value and achieve measurable results.

Leadership and Mentorship:

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior staff, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment focused on earned media success.

Crisis Communications Experience:

Experience in handling media relations during crisis situations, with the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, minimizing negative earned media impact.

Data-Driven Approach:

Experience in tracking and analyzing earned media value and using data to inform media relations strategies and measure success.

This Senior Media Relations Specialist position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead our media relations team and play a crucial role in driving earned media coverage and shaping the organization's public image. The successful candidate will have the chance to make a significant impact and contribute to the overall success of our PR efforts.

This position plays between $55,000 - $65,000 per year

We pay 75% of a high-quality national PPO insurance plan plus offer voluntary dental and vision.

We also match the first 1% of a 401K plus 50% of the next 5% after the first year.

Professional Paid Time Off is given after 90 days of full-time employment (the first 90 days’ time off is unpaid).

Equipment:

This position requires you to have a computer that has fast internet access, where you can participate in video and phone calls as well as complete work. You will also need to have a personal phone.

We have a bring-your-own-device policy and compensate up to $1,000 per year (based on anniversary) for computer, internet, and phone use. We do not provide technical support.
