SUMMARY/POSITION OVERVIEW Are you a photographer with a trained eye? Are you able to tell a strong visual story in still and moving images? Are you versed with the modern equipment, hardware and software needed to do it? Television is a visual medium, and Photojournalists weave the tapestry of the stories we tell.
WHBQ-TV Photojournalists
have the ability to identify and acquire the best pictures and sound, and put them together to tell stories that will impact our community. They operate state-of-the-art broadcast equipment for live and produced segments.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate and maintain a professional quality video camera and related news gathering equipment; be -- or quickly become -- proficient at field troubleshooting.
Be familiar with and understand non-linear editing techniques to meet deadlines and create high-impact stories.
Operate and maintain live equipment including microwave, satellite, and LiveU backpack.
Work with reporters in the field to turn visually-creative, memorable stories as well as interesting, active live shots.
Bring story ideas and creative energy to the table every day.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to use WHBQ equipment to record video of daily news and breaking news events
Strict adherence to deadline pressures
Ability to edit and gather breaking news quickly
Safe driving record
Ability to work overtime as necessary
Prior experience with cameras, editing and equipment
Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting or journalism
Understanding of legal and ethical concerns of journalism

Abilities to carry a camera, tripod, microphone, and lighting equipment
Lifting and carrying at least 50 pounds
Driving in adverse weather conditions
Working outside in the field during all variety of weather, including cold, heat, snow, heavy rain, and thunderstorms
Ability to multi-task and meet deadline pressures
Ability to remain calm and non-confrontational during emotionally taxing environments, including dealing with crime scenes, victims, and suspects
Employee will be expected to troubleshoot camera and live equipment daily
Must be able to edit quickly to meet strict deadlines
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus on camera equipment and editing gear. You will also need to be able to look for and identify video of any profanity or obscenity
Specific hearing abilities required by the job include abilities to hear and monitor audio levels and listen for specific or obscene language in a crowd of people
You will spend most of your day in a news vehicle traveling or staying on the scenes of specific news stories. This may also include out-of-town travel for news coverage on an as needed basis
