Objective The Tax Resolution Specialist (Enrolled Agent) is responsible for managing and resolving IRS and state tax matters on behalf of clients. This role handles tax notices, audits, penalty abatements, and compliance issues from intake through resolution. Acting as the primary liaison between clients and tax authorities, the Specialist delivers compliant, strategic solutions designed to reduce tax liabilities and restore financial stability.

This position is ideal for an experienced Enrolled Agent who enjoys technical tax work, client advocacy, and seeing cases through to completion.

Essential Functions 1. Analyze IRS and state tax notices, prepare accurate responses, and determine required actions for resolution.

2. Represent clients in correspondence and negotiations with the IRS and state authorities to resolve penalties, notices, and audits.

3. Collect documentation, and provide guidance on tax repayment expectations and strategies.

4. Conduct technical research to develop compliant responses and identify resolution opportunities.

5. Identify and apply for penalty abatements, tax relief programs, and settlement options.

6. Maintain accurate records of tax notice responses, resolutions, and client communications.

7. Collaborate with internal departments to support integrated tax resolution strategies.

8. Recommend and implement process improvements for handling tax notices and audit cases.

9. Educate clients on notice triggers and compliance practices to prevent recurring issues.

10. Utilize tax software and digital tools to manage client cases efficiently and compliantly.

Strong ability to analyze and resolve federal and state tax notices

Confident communication and advocacy with tax authorities

Audit Support & Defense:

Experience preparing documentation and guiding clients through audit processes

Tax Research & Strategy:

Skilled use of authoritative tax research tools

Penalty Abatement & Relief Programs:

Proven ability to identify and pursue available relief options

Documentation & Compliance:

Exceptional attention to detail and recordkeeping

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Effective teamwork with tax, legal, and financial professionals

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervision responsibilities. He or she will have the Senior Tax Resolution Specialist as a supervisor.

Work Environment & Schedule

Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position

Monday–Friday 8 am- 5 pm schedule with built-in flexibility

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications

Compensation for this role is designed to reflect both core responsibilities and individual contribution. This position is paid on an hourly basis using a

total compensation model , which includes a base hourly rate plus

performance-based incentive pay

through the firm’s Balanced Scorecard (BSC) program. Incentive pay is

earned and a portion paid monthly

based on individual performance and is included as part of the role’s total compensation.

192 hours of PTO/year

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (preferred)

Minimum of 2 years of relevant tax experience

Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential required

Experience with IRS and state tax resolution strongly preferred
