On behalf of our client, a premier regional bank with a strong commitment to small business growth, we are seeking an experienced
Senior Credit Officer . This role is critical in maintaining the quality and integrity of the bank’s SBA loan portfolio (primarily 7(a) and 504 programs). You will serve as a key decision-maker, ensuring that all credit requests align with both internal bank policy and the specific requirements of the Small Business Administration.
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the
SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
and has a proven track record of underwriting complex commercial credits while navigating the nuances of government-guaranteed lending.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Analysis:
Conduct thorough credit analysis of SBA 7(a) and 504 loan applications. This includes evaluating financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, and collateral adequacy.
SOP Compliance:
Ensure all loan structures and eligibility requirements strictly adhere to the most current
SBA SOP 50 10
guidelines to protect the bank’s guarantee.
Risk Assessment:
Identify key risks within credit requests and propose mitigants or structural changes to align with the bank’s risk appetite.
Credit Memoranda:
Prepare comprehensive written credit memorandums that clearly communicate the credit story, repayment capacity, and overall risk rating to the Credit Committee.
Portfolio Management:
Monitor the ongoing health of the SBA portfolio, including annual reviews, covenant tracking, and identifying early warning signs of credit deterioration.
Collaboration:
Work closely with SBA BDOs (Business Development Officers) and Packagers to streamline the approval process while maintaining high credit standards.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, with at least 3 years specifically focused on
SBA lending .
Technical Knowledge:
Mastery of SBA eligibility requirements, including "Credit Elsewhere" tests, equity injection verification, and affiliation rules.
Analytical Skills:
Strong ability to spread financial statements and perform global cash flow analysis for complex borrowing entities.
Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex credit scenarios to executive leadership.
