Summary Iowa State University’s College of Design is seeking a Graphic Designer I to play a key role in promoting the college and its initiatives. This position will create visual solutions to communicate programs, events, news, and services. The graphic designer will prepare a variety of skilled design and layout work in preparation of posters, exhibits, advertisements, slides, brochures, books, marketing collateral, newsletters, social media content, digital signage, and flyers using various production techniques, which will include computer graphic systems and software. The ideal candidate is open to feedback and receptive to art direction, bringing creative solutions that effectively connect with intended audiences. They manage time well, meet deadlines consistently, and maintain respectful, collaborative relationships with stakeholders. They also demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, allowing them to adapt their approach and develop solutions that best meet project needs.
Example of Duties
Performs preparatory work such as layout, design, and production activities to produce quality graphic‑design artwork.
Uses knowledge of current graphic design equipment, tools, and techniques.
Contributes to the development and implementation of marketing plans.
Supports marketing efforts with a broad range of creative design work that may include graphic arts, copywriting, photography, videography, and sound.
Engages in customer and economic analysis, market testing, advertising, and market research.
May contact in‑house or outside vendors to verify print specifications.
May supervise students.

Grasps professional‑level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode
Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
