Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life for Residential Experience is a vital member of the Housing and Residence Life team, responsible for providing leadership and support in the administration and operation of residential communities. This position reports directly to the University Director of Housing and Residence Life and collaborates closely with graduate hall directors and resident assistants to foster a safe, inclusive, and vibrant living environment conducive to academic success and personal growth. The incumbent is also primarily responsible for coordinating undergraduate/graduate student staff recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing staff development/education. The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life for Residential Experience is responsible for the supervision of undergraduate and graduate staff, community development, responding to resident concerns, student counseling, administrative and facility management, and participation in department initiatives and campus life. The incumbent is responsible for managing and operating a group of residence halls. Duties include crisis intervention within the residence halls, discipline, and participation in the Senior Staff Duty Group (Residence Life professional and graduate student staff). This is a 12‑month, full‑time, professional, with the option to live‑in position.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience working in Residence Life or a related field, with an understanding of student development theory and best practices in residential education.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish effective working relationships with diverse populations.
Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to supervise and mentor staff effectively, promoting professional growth and development.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, and willingness to participate in on‑call duty rotations. Be advised this position may require outside the normal office hours as needed based on the needs of the office.
