
Veterinarian/Medical Director

The Dallas World Aquarium (DWA), a long-established zoological institution in downtown Dallas, is seeking a Senior Medical Director to provide executive-level veterinary oversight, structured clinical leadership, and regulatory governance for its on-site veterinary clinic.
This part-time leadership role is designed to provide senior medical oversight, professional structure, and accountability, ensuring consistency in clinical standards and alignment with regulatory requirements.
The Medical Director reports directly to the Director of The Dallas World Aquarium.
Position Overview
Provide oversight and professional leadership to a veterinary staff of approximately five
Support associate veterinarians in maintaining consistent medical standards and documentation
Strengthen structured communication and professional accountability within the department
Oversee compliance with USDA regulations, Animal Welfare Act (AWA) standards, and Texas Veterinary Practice Act requirements
Maintain licensing protocols and inspection readiness systems
Review medical records and case management procedures for consistency and quality assurance
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled on-site visits as appropriate
Provide consultative oversight for complex or sensitive cases
This role focuses on governance, structure, and oversight rather than full-time hands-on clinical caseload management.
Time Commitment Approximately 50–60 hours per month
Flexible scheduling; combination of scheduled on-site presence, remote oversight, and as-needed regulatory visits
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
Active and unrestricted Texas veterinary license (required)
10+ years of veterinary experience
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Strong familiarity with regulatory compliance and inspection processes
Professional maturity and executive presence
Experience in zoological or exotic animal medicine is welcomed but not required
This position is intended for candidates currently licensed and residing in the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Relocation assistance is not provided.
