Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic
Senior Loan Manager – Subprime Collections
to lead high-risk portfolio recovery efforts. This role requires deep expertise in subprime loan performance, advanced skip tracing capabilities, strong negotiation skills, and the emotional intelligence necessary to work effectively with financially vulnerable borrowers. The ideal candidate understands the nuances of subprime lending — higher default risk, complex borrower situations, and the need to balance recovery performance with compliance and customer dignity. This individual will take ownership of escalated accounts, guide collection strategy, and drive measurable recovery results. Key Responsibilities
Manage and resolve delinquent and/or charged-off
subprime loan accounts
across early, mid, and late stages of collections. Execute advanced skip tracing strategies to locate borrowers and collateral using third-party databases, credit bureau data, public records, digital research, and investigative tools. Negotiate repayment plans, settlements, restructures, and hardship modifications tailored to subprime borrower profiles. Evaluate borrower financial capacity and recommend appropriate loss mitigation strategies. Lead recovery efforts on escalated, high-balance, or legally sensitive accounts. Ensure strict compliance with FDCPA and other state laws, and company policies. Monitor portfolio trends specific to subprime risk tiers and recommend strategy adjustments to improve roll rates and recoveries. Mentor and support junior collectors handling subprime accounts. Coordinate with repossession vendors, legal counsel, bankruptcy teams, and external agencies as needed. Maintain detailed documentation of all borrower interactions and collection activities. Required Qualifications
4+ years of collections experience, with
direct experience managing subprime loan portfolios . 3+ years in a senior, lead, or management-level collections role. Demonstrated success recovering high-risk or subprime accounts. Advanced skip tracing expertise, including experience using skip tools, public records searches, credit analysis, and digital footprint research. Strong negotiation skills with the ability to structure creative repayment solutions. High emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate professionally with distressed borrowers. In-depth knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulatory compliance. Strong analytical and reporting skills. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in subprime auto finance, unsecured auto loans and installment lending. Bilingual (Spanish preferred). Experience managing repossession and post-charge-off recovery processes. Core Competencies
