
Overview
GovCIO is seeking a highly skilled Storage and Backup Engineer to elevate the IT infrastructure for the Department of Veterans Affairs. In this remote position, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge storage and backup solutions. Expect minimal on-site requirements—only 10 - 20% at the Austin Information Technology Center in Austin, Texas.
Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable, efficient storage and backup systems for both on-premises and cloud environments, emphasizing Azure Cloud integration.
Utilize your extensive expertise with Commvault for enterprise data protection, backup, and disaster recovery, ensuring compliance and business continuity.
Engage with enterprise storage platforms and virtualization technologies, including VMware, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Deepen your understanding of hybrid backup solutions, focusing on cloud-based repositories like Azure Blob Storage and AWS S3 for optimal data protection and archival.
Enhance storage and backup performance, reducing backup windows and maximizing resource utilization.
Guarantee reliable and high-speed data access across enterprise systems through expertise in storage networking protocols such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NFS.
Qualifications Required Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with over 12 years of relevant experience.
In-depth knowledge of enterprise storage platforms, particularly with HPE, Pure Storage, and NetApp.
Proven experience implementing and managing Commvault or other enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Rubrik, Veritas) in hybrid environments.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex storage and backup performance issues.
Expertise in architecting and deploying scalable storage and backup systems across hybrid environments.
Strong problem-solving skills for complex storage and backup challenges in dynamic network settings.
Clearance Required Eligibility to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience Familiarity with multiple storage vendor platforms, especially HPE, Pure Storage, and NetApp.
Understanding of cloud object storage solutions like AWS S3 and Google Cloud Storage for backup needs.
Experience with alternative backup solutions such as Veeam, Rubrik, or Veritas NetBackup.
Proficient in Agile methodologies and project management tools such as Azure DevOps and Jira.
Monitor and continuously improve storage and backup performance, availability, and reliability.
