SUMMARY The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the stability, performance, security, and availability of enterprise relational databases, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL. This is a hands‑on production role supporting 24/7 systems, including database operations, performance tuning, incident response, and deployment management. The role also owns SSAS Tabular models, SSIS ETL pipelines, and database deployments using Redgate tools, and works closely with application, reporting, and infrastructure teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES Database Operations (SQL Server & PostgreSQL)
Administer and support SQL Server and PostgreSQL across development, test, and production
Perform backups, restores, patching, upgrades, maintenance, and integrity checks
Monitor availability, performance, replication, and capacity; resolve production incidents
Troubleshoot performance issues including blocking, locking, deadlocks, and resource contention
Manage database security, roles, permissions, and compliance controls
Plan and execute capacity and scalability initiatives
Support high availability and disaster recovery strategies
Manage replication, failover, backups, and restores
Analyze and optimize queries using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE and indexing
Support schema changes and production deployments
Enforce PostgreSQL best practices with development teams
SQL Server, SSAS Tabular & SSIS
Administer and tune SQL Server for transactional, reporting, and analytical workloads
Design and maintain SSAS Tabular models, including DAX, relationships, and refresh strategies
Optimize Tabular model performance and processing
Develop and support SSIS ETL pipelines
Monitor ETL jobs and resolve failures
Deployment & Operational Support
Use Redgate tools (SQL Compare, SQL Data Compare, SQL Monitor, Source Control) for deployments and monitoring
Manage database releases, schema changes, and rollback strategies
Maintain operational and recovery documentation
Participate in on‑call rotation and after‑hours production support
Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures
REQUIRED SKILLS
5+ years of hands‑on DBA experience supporting SQL Server and PostgreSQL in production
SQL Server
Advanced production administration and performance tuning
Strong T‑SQL troubleshooting and indexing skills
Enterprise experience with SSAS Tabular and SSIS
