
The CPG Sales Support Specialist play a key role in supporting retail sales execution and ensuring operational readiness across the organization. This position serves as a central point of coordination between the Sales team, retail customers, distributors, and internal departments, helping ensure that accounts activity’s, sales initiatives, and operational plans are aligned, accurate, and well communicated.
This role goes beyond traditional sales administration. The CPG Sales Support Specialist is expected to work proactively, anticipate next steps, identify potential risks or gaps, and help prepare the organization for upcoming retail customer’s needs, volume changes, and sales initiatives. Success in this role is built on strong execution, ownership, and the ability to connect data, people, and processes to support effective retail sales and profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Partner closely with field sales personnel to support account activity, customer initiatives, and sales priorities. Serve as a backend point of contact for customers and distributors, supporting communication, documentation, and follow-up. Assist in the preparation of sales presentations, account reviews, sales decks, and supporting materials. Support new account setup, item onboarding, pricing updates, and promotional details. Prepare and maintain sales reports, dashboards, metrics, and account data to support visibility and informed decision-making. Monitor sales activity, trends, and upcoming changes; proactively flag risks, gaps, or operational considerations. Ensure accurate processing of purchase orders, credits, pricing files, promotions, deductions, and bill-backs. Track promotions, deductions, bill-backs, and customer compliance Support trade shows, sales meetings, and internal planning Maintain customer records, contracts, pricing documentation, and sales-related files within CRM/ERP systems. Cross-Functional Coordination
Serve as the primary point of coordination between Sales and internal departments including Procurement, Production, Warehouse, Transportation, Finance, and Marketing. Communicate upcoming sales activity, volume changes, promotions, and account needs to ensure operational preparedness. Support internal planning meetings, sales meetings, and trade shows as needed. Oversight & Workflow Management
Provide day-to-day direction and quality oversight for the Virtual Assistant to ensure timely, accurate data input and reporting. Monitor input/output of sales-related data and follow up to ensure deadlines and accuracy standards are met. Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, reporting, communication flow, and operational coordination. Adapt quickly to changing priorities and problem-solve to keep work moving forward, focusing on solutions rather than setbacks. Qualifications
5+ years of experience in sales support, sales operations, account coordination, or a related commercial role (CPG experience preferred). Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with CRM and/or ERP systems. Experience supporting distributors, retail accounts, or customer-facing commercial teams. Familiar with retailer platforms (Retail Link, Partner Pass, Walmart Connect) Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to travel periodically to support food shows, sales meetings, and customer-related events as needed.
