Hunting Creek Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist congregation founded in 1832, is located in the rural community of Big Island, in northern Bedford County, Virginia, and is currently seeking a full-time pastor to be the spiritual leader of the congregation. Big Island is nestled in the eastern shadows of the Blue Ridge mountains, with great opportunities for hunting, fishing and kayaking on the historic James River, or exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. The church is conveniently located just 20 miles from either the town of Bedford or the City of Lynchburg, home of Liberty University. The qualified candidate is responsible to God and the church to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a burden for the lost, a shepherd’s heart to teach and provide pastoral care, and Christian leadership for this body of believers, equipping them in encouraging other believers, and being on mission to reach the lost with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a person of integrity; good moral character, good reputation inside and outside the church; exhibit self-control; not given to drunkenness, hospitable, and able to deal with people in a respectful way (gentle, not quarrelsome, overbearing, or quick tempered).
Exhibit qualities that he is able to manage his own finances and household (respectful and faithful to his wife, if married, and, if he has children, exhibits good fatherly qualities in managing appropriately for the needs and care of his children).
The candidate must be Baptist by faith.
Must be like minded with our church statement of faith (Baptist Faith and Message 2000, amended in 2023).
Formal Biblical/Pastoral education training in either Seminary or Bible College is required.
5 years of Pastoral and/or Ministry experience preferred but not required.
Pastor Role
Shall conduct worship services on Sunday and special occasions as well as Wednesday evening Bible study and prayer meeting.
The pastor is responsible for leading the church to function as a New Testament church. He will work with the deacons and church staff to lead the church in achievement of its mission; proclaiming the gospel, and in caring for church members in need, and ministering to demonstrated needs of those within the community.
Minister and provide counsel to church members and community as needed.
Shall have special charge of the pulpit ministry of the church and shall, in cooperation with the deacons, provide for pulpit supply in his absence.
Preside over all meetings of the church except as otherwise stated in the constitution and by-laws.
Serve as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of all organizations and committees.
Expected to participate in State and National Conventions and in the local Association.
NOTE Parsonage housing is available if desired.
