Join The Wilds in creating unforgettable, educational experiences for guests as you guide them through our open pastures and guide guests in discovering the impact of our conservation efforts. As an Interpretive Tour Guide Team Member, you'll help inspire visitors while supporting the mission of the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks. In this role, you'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable visit for our guests while supporting the mission of the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks. You will be giving the open air bus tour that goes through our pastures and gets our guests close to the animal species here at The Wilds. Responsibilities
Guest Engagement & Interpretation Develop a thorough understanding of provided information and deliver engaging interpretation of The Wilds' conservation efforts. Utilize artifacts and other tools to effectively convey key messages to visitors. Greet and inform guests about tour options, logistics, and other pertinent information. Serve as a liaison for groups upon arrival. Act as a representative of The Wilds through professional dress, language, and attitude. Tour Operations & Safety Safely operate a 24-32 passenger bus. Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness. Responsible for gate operation and adherence to safety protocols. Adapt to schedule changes based on operational needs, including weather conditions and guest attendance. Cross-Department & Facility Support Assist in daily housekeeping and light grounds keeping tasks; heavy lifting may be required. Provide support to the gift shop, restaurant, or shuttle operations as needed. Strive to further the mission of The Wilds and support the Columbus Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club. Qualifications
Education, Age & Certifications Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in biology, education, ecology, or related fields is a plus. CPR/First Aid certification preferred. Possession of a valid state issued driver's license. Subject to a criminal background check and Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) review. Subject to The Wilds' Drug-Free Workplace Policy. Guest Service & Communication Skills Positive and professional attitude. Strong public service and guest engagement skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience in public speaking, presentations, or programming preferred. Ability to operate a two-way radio effectively. Decision-Making & Work Style Ability to make responsible decisions and adapt to a fast-paced work environment. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Physical Requirements Capability to walk long distances with inclines while assisting guests. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.
