YD Miami - Aquatics Director - Summer Camp

The Aquatics Director is responsible for preparing and administering the Aquatics Operations, coordinating swim lessons, and ensuring compliance to the grant-funded water-related components. In addition, the Aquatics Director will manage the Aquatics staff to include training staff and ensure that all safety and risk management procedures are followed. Essential Functions/Job Duties: Oversee the following programs to ensure successful implementation of core components when applicable: Fishing, Canoeing Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Swimming Skills/Lessons, Open Swim Snorkeling Coordinate all swim skills testing for all youth enrolled in the program. Provide Camp Director a list of campers who have passed the swim skills and would be able to participate in other aquatic components Identify campers who need additional swimming instruction and work with the Camp Director and WSI staff to implement lessons. Assist Camp Director with scheduling program activities, rainout rescheduling, transition plans, and participating in field trips. Maintain cleanliness of site areas such as pool, locker rooms, lagoon, beachfront, storage areas, and dock. Maintain equipment, materials, and supplies needed for program use, such as kayaks, safety equipment, chase boats, PFDs, paddles, etc. Ensures that the Aquatics Program follows the program standards, policies, protocol, and guidelines of the YMCA of the USA, Y South Florida, and state and local codes. Keeps abreast of safety and Risk Management and emergency procedures. Maintains accident reports, equipment and safety inspection records, and health code records. Trains and manages staff. Audit lifeguard skills, certifications, and service documentation to ensure all staff are within association policy and standards. Maintains program areas at the YMCA and off-site locations clean, orderly, and safe. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Skills and Abilities/Position Requirements: Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor's degree in health, Physical Education, or related field, preferred. Minimum of 2-4 years of Aquatics program experience or equivalent supervisory experience. Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus Certificates and Licenses: YMCA Lifeguard Certified or Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, Certified Pool Operator (CPO or AFO), and Swim Instructor Certified, preferred. First Aid/CPR/AED, CPRO, and oxygen administration certified. YMCA Team Leader certification preferred but not required. Other skills and abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be organized and detail-oriented Ideal Candidate Profile: Natural leader with a competitive drive, emotionally mature, able to initiate and conduct difficult conversations with individuals at all levels. Avid swimmer, passionate about the sport of swimming, dedicated to the cause of water safety and drowning prevention. Innate desire to provide excellent customer service to participants, which will result in an exceptional aquatic experience. High-energy personality, outgoing, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable with public speaking Work Environment: Primary works on pool deck or around pool arena, however, occasionally sits inside. Must be able to swim 500 yards/meters non-stop and tread water for two minutes without using hands. Must be able to hear without aid and see victims. Physical Demands: Being in good physical health with a full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions.
