Save Job

THE POSITION Are you a motivated, self‑assured, and proactive individual who excels at taking initiative to accomplish tasks efficiently? The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about real estate and eager to achieve success. In the role of Real Estate Appraiser, you will showcase your skills in appraising and reviewing various property types – including homes, residential lots and up to 4‑unit apartment buildings – specifically for right‑of‑way acquisitions related to highway and bridge enhancements. Your work will ensure that appraisals accurately reflect fair market value and just compensation for damages, all while adhering to tight deadlines. If you thrive in a dynamic environment and possess outstanding communication and negotiation abilities, we want to hear from you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Real Estate Appraiser, you will assess the necessary methods to establish property values. Your responsibilities include identifying any concealed issues or omissions not reflected in the plans and reporting minor plan modifications to the supervisor. If a claimant is involved, these changes will be processed through the Right‑of‑Way office program, while more significant concerns that could impact deadlines will require a formal response. You may also be required to attend and testify at Board of View Hearings or Court Trials regarding appraisals and estimates of damages.

In addition, you will provide technical guidance to other project team members regarding the preparation of appraisals and assist district review appraisers to assure conformance with state and federal policies, procedures, and requirements. You will conduct preliminary field investigations and estimates, coordinate appraisal activities with other right‑of‑way functions, provide information pertaining to departmental requirements, appraise individual properties, and prepare correspondence pertaining to any appraising activity. It is essential to provide prompt and accurate customer service relative to property owners' questions or complaints and inform property owners of their rights and Commonwealth obligations.
