Job Summary Risk Management and Safety at Auburn University seeks a candidate for an Environmental Protection Specialist to provide professional expertise for environmental compliance services for Fort Benning, Georgia. Specialization areas include Hazardous Waste Management, Non‑RCRA Waste, Clean Water Act Compliance, Clean Air Act Compliance, and Storage Tank Management.
Essential Functions
Conduct and perform site surveys, assessments, inspections, and evaluations to ensure regulated facilities manage environmental concerns.
Provide technical guidance in specialized areas to the Ft. Benning and Auburn University community.
Develop safety programs ensuring continuous compliance with federal, state, local, and university regulations, recommending control measures when needed.
Provide periodic, annual, or comprehensive reports for each site visit and the results for review, evaluation, and corrective action.
Maintain a database of all site visits, inspections, facility information, contact points, inspection reports, and other environmental requirements.
Proactively seek new ways to improve overall safety and environmental performance.
Recommend actions and solutions to resolve and prevent violations.
Design, conduct, and coordinate training and education in areas of specialization.
Participate in the chemical and/or hazardous materials emergency response team.
Assist with spill cleanup, report spills to proper contacts, and file spill reports internally and externally.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Level I
High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience.
Associate’s degree plus 2 years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree.
Level II
High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience.
Associate’s degree plus 4 years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience.
Level III
High school diploma or equivalent plus 8 years of experience.
Associate’s degree plus 6 years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience.
Scope of Experience Experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste, clean water, clean air, or storage tank management.
Minimum Skills and Abilities
Performs a limited variety of simple, repetitive tasks.
Minimum Technology Skills
Knowledge and/or skill to perform a limited variety of simple, repetitive tasks related to an engineering or scientific field.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience in hazardous waste management.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
