Position Details Position: Mechanical Estimator
Hours: 40 hours per week
Position Summary The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for transforming complex customer RFQ packages into precise, competitive cost models. This role sits at the intersection of business development, engineering, and production, requiring a deep understanding of machining processes, material science, and vendor management to ensure the company maintains profitability while meeting the exacting standards of the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive pricing and lead-time models based on customer blueprints, 3D CAD models, and technical specifications.
Calculate labor hours, material yields, and specialized subcontracting costs (e.g., anodizing, cleanroom packaging, or heat treating).
Prepare, issue, receive and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
Communicate with customers on specification, questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the quoting process.
Perform Risk Analysis on complex geometries or exotic materials to identify potential manufacturing hurdles before the bid is submitted.
Partner with Project Managers and Engineers during the pre-production phase to clarify design-for-manufacturing (DFM) opportunities.
Present detailed bid breakdowns to the leadership team for high-value contracts.
Maintain a centralized Quoting Log to track RFQ-to-PO conversion rates and follow up on outstanding bids.
Conduct "Actual vs. Estimated" audits on completed jobs; work with the production team to implement corrective measures for any cost variances.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
7+ years of experience as a machinist/mechanical estimator/manufacturing engineer in a semiconductor, precision, or high-tech manufacturing industry.
Proficiency in reading and understanding complex blueprints.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work with the customer and find mutually satisfactory solutions to complex issues.
Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including the ability to interpret redline designs and technical specifications.
Experienced in managing the RFQ/RFP lifecycle for complex budgeting and bidding of retrofit projects and equipment upgrades.
Experience in NPI manufacturing is a plus.
