Human Resources Specialist Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Specialist. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time‑tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility and self‑discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany–Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I‑83.

Responsibilities

Payroll

– Process accurate and timely payroll for employees and maintain the payroll and HRIS database ensuring information is accurate. Process an annual 1099 filing. Manage payroll deductions, garnishments, taxes, and year‑end reporting (W‑2s, etc.). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. Verify all tax reports are filed and generate payroll reports for departments and compliance purposes. Partner with the finance department on payroll reconciliations.

Benefits Administration

– Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs and reconcile benefits invoices. Assist employees with onboarding and offboarding, benefits questions, eligibility, and enrollment changes. Ensure compliance with benefits‑related regulations (COBRA, FMLA, ACA, etc.) and assist with audits and compliance reporting. Assist the Director of Human Resources with FMLA and disability leave requests. Assist in the administration of risk management programs, including workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance claims, and incident reporting.

Miscellaneous

– Assist the Human Resources Department with the daily operations of the school store, ordering and restocking inventory, sales tracking, and customer service. Maintain accurate inventory records conducting periodic audits. Other work‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, human resources or related field.

Two to three years of related experience and prior experience with a payroll and HRIS system strongly preferred.

High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills. Proven ability to work under strict deadlines. This position requires absolute confidentiality.

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment.

Compensation and Benefits Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 to $75,000.00, depending on qualifications. Compensation is negotiable and will be commensurate with the candidate’s years of experience, skills, and overall fit for the role.
