Position Overview
The Senior Benefits & Compensation Specialist is responsible for administering, analyzing, and optimizing the organization’s total rewards programs, including compensation structures, salary benchmarking, benefits administration, compliance, and annual cycle activities. This role serves as a subject‑matter expert and works closely with HR leadership to ensure programs remain competitive, cost‑effective, and aligned with organizational goals. The position also provides advanced analytical support, contributes to policy development, and advises managers on pay and benefits decisions. Key Job Responsibilities
Manage compensation programs including salary & bonus structures, pay grades, and job evaluations. Conduct annual and ad‑hoc salary benchmarking using market surveys and third‑party data sources. Analyze internal pay equity and prepare recommendations to maintain fairness, competitiveness, and compliance. Partner with HR and department leaders on compensation decisions for promotions, adjustments, and new hire offers. Support annual merit cycle planning, modeling, budgeting, and communication materials. Assist with the development and maintenance of compensation policies and procedures. Administer employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA, 401(k), and wellness initiatives. Provide guidance on leave administration, including FMLA and ADA compliance. Serve as the primary escalation point for employee benefits questions and complex case resolution. Coordinate with brokers, carriers, and vendors on plan management, issue resolution, and annual renewals. Support open enrollment planning, system configuration, testing, and employee communications. Ensure benefit programs comply with federal and state regulations (ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, COBRA). Review benefit plan utilization and recommend improvements for cost savings and employee value. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records in HR/benefits systems. Assist with audits (benefits, 401(k), compensation, payroll). Guide, support, mentor other benefit and compensation specialists. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field. Extensive experience or training in the field may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum Requirements
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. 5‑7 years of related experience in benefits, compensation, human resources, or other analytical role involving sensitive personal information. Proficient with at least one HRIS or benefit system. Previous experience with labor market compensation surveys. Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws. Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, modeling). Strong knowledge of FLSA, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and other regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Preferred Requirements
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Ability to analyze and present data graphically, quantitatively, including work with spreadsheets and databases. Familiarity with labor laws and regulations, especially wage and hour laws. CCP, CBP, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, or CEBS certification. Experience in construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments. Previous experience working in Workday HCM. Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal and conduct extensive reading.
