We are seeking a detail-oriented Deputy Safety Director to support the Safety Director in overseeing safety compliance across multiple construction and infrastructure projects. This role is heavily focused on safety audits, regulatory compliance, documentation, safety training, and corrective action management for private and public agency projects, including DDC, DASNY, MTA, DEP, PANYNJ, NYCHA, OGS, SCA, DOB, among others. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with formal audit processes, agency safety requirements, construction safety regulations, safety training and will serve as a key resource for ensuring projects remain audit-ready at all times. Key Responsibilities
Conduct formal safety compliance audits across all projects in accordance with agency safety manuals, contract requirements, and site-specific safety plans, utilizing established audit schedules, checklists, and reporting tools. Prepare, manage, and close out audit documentation and corrective actions, including detailed audit reports with findings and risk assessments, tracking and verifying corrective action plans (CAPs), and maintaining continuous audit readiness through ongoing compliance monitoring. Fill in on-site when needed. Enforce and improve Quality Control Program and conduct regular safety audits on active projects to ensure compliance with regulatory and client requirements. Identify opportunities to improve current processes, forms, documentation, and workflows, making recommendations that enhance efficiency, clarity, and safety performance. Support the Safety Director in implementing and maintaining company-wide and project-specific safety programs for multiple clients and agencies. Prepare, review, maintain, and submit corporate or site specific safety documentation including, but not limited to Site Safety Plans (SSP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), Tool Box Talk, Incident and near miss report. Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Serve as a liaison between field personnel, subcontractors, project management teams, and senior leadership on safety-related matters. Support consistent communication and alignment of safety expectations across all levels of project delivery. Assist with onboarding, mentoring, training, and professional development of safety staff. Build and maintain strong relationships with client safety personnel to promote consistency, collaboration, and high-quality service delivery. Bring innovative, creative ideas to strengthen safety operations, improve reporting and communication, and support the continued growth of the safety group. Serve as a key personnel member for Safety Training School, deliver training, develop curriculum, and perform administrative work. Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in construction safety, safety compliance, or safety auditing. Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and NYC construction safety requirements. Demonstrated experience conducting formal safety audits. Strong written documentation, reporting, and organizational skills. Ability to interpret contract language, agency safety manuals, and compliance requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint). Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a compliance-driven environment. NYC DOB SST 62, (OSHA 510, or 500a plus). Safety certification or licensure such as CHST, ASP, CIH, CSP, DOB SSM, SSC, CS. Experience with private and public works, infrastructure, utility projects, and other construction projects.
