Episcopal Group Homes, Inc (EGH) is seeking volunteer members of its Board of Directors.
EGH, a small non-profit Home and Community Based Services provider, is about to celebrate 50 years of serving people with disabilities in accordance with its values of commitment, choice, dignity, relationships, and community. EGH provides supports and services to individuals in Community Residential Settings, Integrated Community Supports apartments, and the homes of the people we serve.
We're searching for Directors local to the Twin Cities who would be able to participate in our activities and celebrations. Further, we're searching for Directors who specifically might be:
A community connector. Someone who knows people who knows people
Someone versed in social media/public relations
Familiar with fundraising without a significant fundraising budget
An HR generalist or from a recruiting background
Able to follow a structure while being a creative problem solver
Someone with some knowledge or work experience in the field of Home and Community Based Services

Board Responsibilities The Board of Directors has the principal responsibility of ensuring the mission of Episcopal Group Homes, Inc. is fulfilled. This function is carried out by providing governance, leadership and vision; ensuring the vitality and growth of the organization; representing EGH to the community and accepting the ultimate legal authority for the organization.
The board as a whole should fulfill these duties:
Clearly define and articulate the organization’s mission, accomplishments and goals to gain support from the community and enhance the organization’s public image.
Hire, support and evaluate the Executive Director with the goals of the organization in mind. If the work of the Executive Director does not meet the agreed-upon standards, the board will take appropriate action in accordance with established protocol.
With the Executive Director, develop long-range goals and guide organizational planning.
Assist in the development of the organization’s annual budget and ensure proper financial controls are in place.
Play an active role in securing adequate financial resources for the organization.
Define prerequisites for potential new board members, orient new members, and periodically evaluate performance of the board and its individual members.
Serve as a fiduciary, or steward, and in such role, exercise the proper duties of: Care: performing duties prudently and in good faith
Loyalty: acting in the best interests of the organization when making decisions
Obedience: remaining faithful to the organizational mission while following governing documents, including the bylaws and state and federal laws
Adhere to ethical standards and norms.
Speak with one voice and accept decisions on a majority basis.
Individual board members are responsible for:
Regularly attending board meetings and important related meetings.
Arriving at meetings prepared and ready to engage in thoughtful dialogue.
Staying informed and up-to-date on the agency’s mission, values, policies and programs.
Making a personal financial contribution that is significant and meaningful.
Being an engaged participant in strategic planning efforts
Making a serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
Serving as an ambassador and advocate for the organization
Building a collegial working relationship with other board members that contributes to consensus.
Supporting the work of the staff and assisting when appropriate, but not becoming involved in the day-to-day management
Actively participating in the board’s annual evaluation and individual self-assessment
Regularly attending organizational activities. These activities may include, but are not limited to, fundraising events, exhibit openings, educational programs and outreach events.
Suggesting possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization
Reviewing, signing and following the statement of understanding, conflict of interest and code of ethics policies.
Board members are appointed for three-year terms; officers’ terms are one year.
