
Associate Commercial Strategy & Planning Director (New Product Planning)

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE (Basic purpose of the job):
With Exelixis' continued growth and extensive, fast‑moving pipeline, the need has been identified to recruit an Associate Commercial Strategy and Planning (CSP) Director (New Product Planning (NPP)). The position will report to the Director of CSP, New Product Planning. This position will be accountable for guiding the New Product Planning function within CSP, contributing to key cross‑functional initiatives for pipeline assets, which spans across multiple early‑ and late‑stage molecules, and will provide critical information and advice to Exelixis Leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primarily responsible for guiding Pipeline commercial strategy and analysis, including:
Prioritization of indications / development approach for current and future early‑ and late‑stage pipeline molecules, including fast‑to‑market and lifecycle management (LCM) opportunities
Provide comprehensive competitive intelligence to inform pipeline strategy and competitive positioning, including conference coverage, earnings calls coverage and competitor landscapes
Planning and executing primary and secondary market research to support commercial opportunity assessment, revenue forecast assumptions and address unknowns in new tumor types and indications
Support clinical partnership and combination strategy for pipeline programs through cross‑functional evaluation of target combination molecules
Provide commercial opportunity assessment and revenue forecast for potential indications to help inform Phase 3 go/no‑go decisions and to support business planning
Partner with Discovery/Development to develop Target Product Profile(s) (TPPs) for programs/indications of interest
Work cross‑functionally with Commercial, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Scientific Strategy, Discovery and Finance functions to generate holistic recommendations
Review clinical data for pipeline opportunities and assess competitive positioning and commercial implications
Determine the appropriate analyses required to answer key business questions and generate data‑driven recommendations based on analyses
Provide and ensure the interpretation of complex analytical information including: Primary and Secondary Data, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Scenario Planning, and other relevant sources of information and analysis
Management of third parties' vendors/contractors to oversee the execution of Market Research and Competitive Intelligence
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education:
BS/BA degree in related discipline and at least 7 years of related experience; or
Master's degree in related discipline and 5 years of related experience; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Previous experience in life sciences strategy consulting or pharma/biotech analytics is highly desirable
Experience in developing cross‑functional partnerships and collaborating with Clinical stakeholders
Previous new product evaluation experience highly desirable
Prior oncology experience is highly desired with specialty product experience as a minimum
Previous in‑line experience in biopharma industry is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge in qualitative and quantitative market research methods
Evaluate competitive intelligence and scientific literature to develop perspective on evolving treatment landscapes
Foundation in patient‑based forecasting and quantitative modeling methodologies
Ability to navigate uncertainty and apply structured thinking and decision‑making frameworks to complex business questions
Demonstrates strong willingness to collaborate and ability to be a strategic thought partner
Ability to consider multiple alternatives and provide complex scientific / clinical analyses of those alternatives in a clear and concise manner
Ability to frame critical business questions, identify information needs to answer those questions, and determine where to best search for primary and secondary information sources
Knowledge about key market‑shaping activities and how data can support success
Effective presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent organizational, project management and problem‑solving skills
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
May also work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in‑depth evaluation of variable factors
Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $176,500 - $251,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors. In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers a comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401(k) plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales‑based incentive plan.
