What You’ll Do You will own the estimating process from spec intake to final quote, helping our sales and production teams price competitively while protecting margins.
Core responsibilities
Please review the RFQs and customer specs (size, quantity, paper, ink, finishing, mailing, shipping, deadlines).
Build accurate estimates for offset, digital, wide-format, and outsourced work when needed.
Determine the best production plan (press selection, imposition, stock, waste, run speeds, bindery path).
Price materials and outside services (paper, plates, coatings, bindery, fulfillment, shipping, freight).
Create clear, professional quotes with line‑item detail when required (paper, print, finishing, mailing, shipping).
Collaborate with production to confirm feasibility, schedules, and best‑cost routing.
Work with vendors to request and compare pricing, then maintain vendor quote records.
Support job costing and margin checks, help refine pricing templates, and estimating standards.
Contribute to win/loss insight by tracking quote outcomes and reasons for lost bids when available.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of paper stocks, press processes (offset/digital), and common finishing (folding, saddle stitch, perfect bind, coil, die‑cut, lamination, UV, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and comfort with specs, math, and spreadsheets.
Ability to communicate clearly with both customers/sales and production teams.
Preferred
Experience with print MIS/estimating systems (EFI Pace, PrintSmith, Monarch, or similar).
2+ years of experience estimating in commercial printing (or similar production estimating role).
Understanding of mailing and USPS concepts (postage classes, NCOA, presort, inkjet addressing).
Experience in estimating book work, fulfillment, kitting, or large‑format signage.
Familiarity with job costing and margin analysis.
