Reports To: Regional Area Manager
Job Description: The Business Development Advisor for the Nevada Small Business Development Center (Nevada SBDC) provides legal, accounting, and/or financing (capital access) business assistance for current entrepreneurs and business owners. To assist clients with advising, education, and development in the following service areas:
Advising on small business needs such as
Accounting and bookkeeping
Business models and operations
Business plans
Capital access (specifically debt financing)
Financial projections
Legal concerns (contracts, lease agreements, CRE purchase agreements)
Training and education of small business needs
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to assist Nevada businesses in accessing capital and improving profitability.
Plan and deliver impactful training workshops that help small business owners succeed in streamlining and expanding operations.
As needed and when requested by Region Manager, represent Nevada SBDC at regional events to attract clients and nurture relationships with key partners including chambers of commerce and government organizations.
Develop, track and report performance of advising efforts in Neoserra (client tracking software system) in a timely manner.
Some travel may be required for training or attending program or partner events.
This position is responsible for specific client outcomes as designated annually by the U.S. Treasury, Director of Advising, and Region Manager. These outcomes are part of a statewide mandate of achieving specific amounts of clients served, capital funding, and jobs created/supported.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree & two years of related work experience
or
Master’s Degree & one year of related work experience
Preferred Related Experience: Small business lending and small business ownership and program or business development, i.e., marketing, advertising, international trade or exporting, public relations and/or promotion of small business endeavors.
Certification and Licensure: None required
The Nevada Small Business Development Center delivers a wide variety of technical assistance to Nevada’s businesses and governmental entities through a 12-office statewide network, since 1985. This economic and community development collaborative is hosted by the College of Business, University of Nevada, Reno.
Nevada SBDC counselors mentor and assist businesses long term, as well as facilitate mutually beneficial relationships for businesses, for example, connecting buyers with suppliers and matching businesses with complementing services. Nevada SBDC counselors also advocate, challenge, and help with planning and operational decisions, so small businesses have a support team. This position is part of a team that works together help businesses create and support jobs, secure capital, and start businesses.
