Responsibilities

Customer Service - Proactively engage and make a connection with customers. Ask questions and listen to customers’ needs. Direct customers to merchandise, inform them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, STAR card. Provide premier customer service. Cooperate and build positive, inclusive, respectful relationships; take accountability for your own actions and outcomes.

Organization - Maintain store appearance.

Sales - Cross-sell products and know the layout of the store. Make suggestions to customers on latest trends and current promotions based on customer’s individual needs. Upsell products. Learn product features, keep up with latest trends, and leverage company tools to provide product knowledge, specs.

Operations - Use a Point-of-Sales system, process cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit/debit cards, cash handling including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customers. Complete various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation.

Inventory - Be the keeper of merchandise; complete all inventory processes and ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed. May participate in periodic inventories. Responsible for the security of cash, fixed assets, and merchandise inventory. Provide direction on assignments including prioritizing projects, tasks, managing merchandise and inventory.

Dependability - Adherence to assigned work schedule. Accurate and complete follow-through on work assignments.

Supervisory Requirements - Provide effective leadership; direct, train, and motivate associates; set a positive example. Responsible for coaching and feedback, timely and professional. Provide direction, work assignments, and training to sales associates; provide input to Department Manager on associate performance. May open/close locations. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Product Knowledge - Moderate level of knowledge of products/merchandise. Provide training documentation to sales associates on product features.

Experience - 1-2 years of Retail or relevant work experience required. 1 year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.

Communication Skills - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and management. Ability to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette.

Mathematical Skills - Basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios. Must be able to make change in American monetary units.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to multi-task while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business. Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision. Ability to defuse escalated exchanges and create win-win situations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing, and standing for at least two consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Involves lifting at least 25 lbs. and up to 50 lbs in some departments. Work typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location.

Hours Available to work a variety of hours which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education & Experience

General Experience - 1 year responsible experience in clerical, office, or retail store work demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience - 1 year progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing duties that constitute the principal work of the position to be filled.

Substitution of Education for Experience - College/university study above high school level may substitute one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience; at any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience. Candidates must have demonstrated supervisory potential in work experience or training.
