Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students, provide live-in administrative leadership for one or more residence halls. Supervise student resident assistants and participate as a member of the Residence Life leadership team. Represent Student Life’s interest in the daily operation within the Residence Life program areas. Interpret policies and regulations and represent students’ concerns to Student Life. This is a 10-month position starting August 1 thru May 31. Required Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills Ability to plan innovative activities for student engagement Ability to perform in a flexible live-in work schedule that includes nights, and weekends; balance many tasks simultaneously, and work well both independently and cooperatively with others Ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure Empathetic and sensitive to the needs of young adults Ability to respond to crisis situations involving mental health that require engagement with mental health care providers Basic skills in interpersonal relationships, conflict management, and confrontation skills Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in higher education, psychology, social work, counseling, or other related field. Essential Functions:
Supervise one Assistant Resident Director and a team of Resident Assistants Lead weekly RA team meetings to shape an effective working team Provide mentorship to student leaders and other students Assist staff in program planning for their residents Develop student staff as they seek to become effective role models Provide regular feedback and an annual evaluation to each staff member Help to plan and implement August and January training for student staff. Participate in the student leadership hiring process Building Management – 30% Work with students to maintain a safe and orderly living environment Supervise room check‑in and check‑out processes for building(s) within area Supervise room key distribution and collection within area Instruct staff and students in acceptable methods of altering or personalizing their rooms Report need for work-order repairs or equipment to the physical plant Supervise student use of storage facilities Identify, assess, and resolve problems with connector lounges and public spaces in the residence halls. Student Support – 30% Respond to requests for information and assistance from students Provide counsel and support to students Refer students to counseling services, academic advisors, and other resources, as needed Visit residence hall floors regularly to build relationships with students Maintain a visible profile at various events on campus Follow up on student concerns, as requested by the campus Care Team Participate in the On‑Call Resident Director (OCRD) rotation Respond to violations of the Student Handbook Participate as an investigator and advisor in the Student Conduct process Residence Life Administration – 10% Attend regular Student Life, Residence Life, and supervision meetings Interpret and support institutional policy Effectively manage hall & activity program budgets Represent student concerns and needs to the Associate Dean of Student Gather and provide data regarding assigned area to the Associate Dean of Students, upon request A list of 3 professional references with contact information E‑Verify Statement of Participation
