Recreation Specialist I (Roller Hockey Referee)

Summary
Position budgeted to start at $25.60 per hour. This is a PARS budgeted position limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year. It is not a PERS eligible position. The Recreation Specialist – Roller Hockey Referee will work at the Escondido Sports Center, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, supervise youth and adult hockey games by enforcing rules and maintaining order.
Apply official USARS inline hockey rules and the City of Escondido Adult Roller Hockey Program rules.
Assess game penalties, ensure fair play, and enforce misconduct policies and the Community Services Department Code of Conduct.
Provide accurate reporting and statistics to the scorekeeper during gameplay.
Inspect player safety equipment prior to games.
Explain rules when requested and consistently officiate gameplay fairly.
Submit truthful reports after player misconduct ejections and injuries.
Communicate respectfully with players, coaches, spectators, and other parties.
Maintain excellent customer service while enforcing all rules professionally.
Assist in games in emergencies and injuries.
Perform other game‑related duties as assigned.
Attend all meetings and trainings that support professional development as a game official.
Desired Qualifications
Work well in a team environment and individually with excellent customer service skills.
Depth of knowledge of inline roller hockey.
Work efficiently in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
Minimum requirements: 16 years of age; ability to obtain current First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
Administrative Requirements The City of Escondido is committed to a drug and alcohol‑free workplace. A medical examination and drug screen will be conducted following a conditional offer of employment. All applicants will be subject to a fingerprint investigation and pre‑employment drug testing as required.
