
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Safety Instructional Designer II designs and develops training programs, courses, and instructional materials for the Company's Safety Training department, collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and quality across multiple formats, including print, audio, visual, and multimedia. This mid- to high-level instructional designer applies adult learning and performance-based principles to support effective learning and improve real-world safety outcomes in complex, high-risk environments.
The individual in this role can work remote within the US; this role will require up to 15% annual travel.

Essential Functions
Design learning experiences that reflect real job conditions, constraints, and risk exposure
Design training to support observable on-the-job behaviors and safe work practices
Design training that anticipates common failure points, human error traps, and system constraints
Translate complex technical and regulatory information into clear, usable learning that can be applied under time pressure and field conditions
Independently lead instructional design efforts for assigned programs or initiatives
Collaborate with Safety Training Department SMEs to identify training requirements and define clear learning outcomes
Support the creation of blended learning formats including instructor‑led training (ILT), e‑learning modules, job aids, and hands‑on practicals to support both Train‑the‑Trainer and direct‑to‑customer deliverables. Deliverables include:
Multi‑media training presentations
Student Manuals, Workbooks and supplemental materials
Instructor Manuals
Work with team to administer full life‑cycle audio‑visual productions from concept through revisions and final publication/distribution
Assist team videographer in the creation of storyboards, scripts and shot lists for educational videos
Utilize existing video, audio and still photographs for inclusion into comprehensive training packages
Coordinate with Department videographer
Evaluate training effectiveness using learner feedback, knowledge application, and observed performance indicators, and revise content accordingly
Establish relationships with internal customers as well as outside service providers as required
Translating complex, technical information into engaging and digestible learning
Assist SMEs in the creation of training content for inclusion into the Learning Management System
Occasional travel to districts and job sites throughout entire MYR footprint
Identify and wear appropriate clothing and Personal Protective Equipment while on jobsites
Other duties as assigned

ABOUT YOU Qualifications
Minimum 4 - 5 years of experience in progressive Instructional Designer role(s) with experience in applying adult learning principles to ensure training is relevant, scenario‑based, and problem‑centric
Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator - desirable
Experience with 3D design software - desirable
Electrical Utility experience - desirable
Experience with e‑learning and training platforms such as Articulate Rise/360 - desirable
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in media, public relations, communications or equivalent area; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Technical expertise in formal Instructional Design including Bloom’s Taxonomy, ADDIE and ADDIE alternatives such as SAM
Instructional material design expertise
Expertise editing in the Adobe suite to include InDesign
Knowledge of workplace safety and/or OSHA guidelines beneficial
Mastery of Microsoft Office
Comprehensive knowledge of the training materials creation workflow and process
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think creatively with originality and convert those thoughts into products
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
WHAT WE OFFER Compensation & Benefits
Salary $98,000-$115,000 / year
Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
