Wildfire Defense Systems, Inc. ("WDS") is a Qualified Insurance Resource (QIR) operating the largest private sector wildfire service in the nation, encompassing a 22-state service area and specializing in wildfire education, loss prevention, and wildfire response services. Qualified Insurance Resources are defined as NWCG qualified or equivalent, wildland engines, tenders, hand crews, fire/liaison officers, and personnel working for or contracted by an insurance company with a mission to mitigate impacts on insured structures threatened by wildfire. Purpose and Scope of Position The Technical Writer I works within the WDS Professional Services Division/Client Communications Department to gather and analyze data and intelligence, document and generate initial drafts of client deliverables, and report WDS Service success for client program value reporting. This position will appeal to a writer and a problem solver who is willing to focus on a task thoroughly to ensure accuracy but is also flexible to prioritize company goals, as wildfire demands often require an abrupt change in tasks. This job balances project-based work, recurring deliverable production, and client facing operational reporting during fire season.
Organizational Relationship
This position supports the workload of the Reporting Team Lead and Technical Writers/Editors
This position collaborates with fellow team members in Client Communications, as well as team members from Data Science and Program & Client Management Departments
This position does not supervise others
Duties and Responsibilities Data Analysis and Writing [75%-100%]
Analyze data to produce internal reports, initial drafts of client-facing reports, and various miscellaneous project requests
Collect and analyze property data for use in response plan reporting
Collect and analyze field data to produce well-written Save Case Studies.
Analyze risks present on properties using photos, fire expertise, and other tools to assist in client reporting
Collect and report client metrics for WDS client Annual Reports
Collaborate with Fire Watch Officers to generate Predictive Services Mapping for client reporting
Analyze quarterly PIF changes by client by state for reporting
Potential Collaboration Opportunities [0-25%]
Assist with wildfire monitoring and reporting during times of peak fire activity, as capacity allows
Respond to reporting requests from PCM Department as well as Leadership
Take on project management assignments for program efficiencies
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
Completion of an undergraduate program or equivalent experience (B.A. or B.S.)
Proven software competency, i.e. MS Office Suite, Google Earth, Adobe
Report writing experience, educationally or professionally
Demonstrate ability to consistently produce quality reporting deliverables error free
Portray a positive, constructive, and supportive attitude
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced skill with Excel and other modern data tools, such as Power BI, ArcGis
Experience creating PowerPoint presentations
