The Executive Director (ED)
manages all daily operations, ensuring resident well-being, staff performance, financial health & regulatory compliance, acting as the primary leader for the community's mission, balancing high-quality care with occupancy, budget & staff morale through strong leadership, marketing & community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Management:
Oversees daily activities, department heads (nursing, dining, activities, etc.), scheduling, hiring, training, and performance management.
Financial Management:
Manages budgets, profit & loss (P&L), resource allocation, and ensures financial viability while meeting revenue goals.
Resident & Family Relations:
Builds strong relationships, addresses concerns, ensures high quality of life, and promotes resident satisfaction.
Marketing & Community Outreach:
Collaborates on sales/marketing to maintain occupancy, builds local professional relationships, and promotes the community's reputation.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
Ensures adherence to state/federal regulations, implements safety programs, and maintains high standards of care.
Leadership & Culture:
Fosters a positive work environment, reduces staff turnover, and serves as the cornerstone of the facility's culture.
Essential Skills & Traits
Leadership:
Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff.
Financial Acumen:
Skill in budgeting, P&L, and resource management.
Empathy & Communication:
High emotional intelligence for leading staff, supporting families, and connecting with residents.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Familiarity with senior care laws and standards.
