America’s Test Kitchen (ATK), a pioneering food media brand that reaches millions of fans each month via TV, video, digital, print, social, podcasts and more, is seeking a Sr. Director, Reviews to help cement ATK’s position as the leading source for trusted kitchen equipment and ingredient reviews.
In this new role, the Sr. Director, Reviews will manage the ATK Reviews team, overseeing all operations and content and ensuring the highest standards of unbiased, scientific, hands‑on testing and reporting. The successful candidate is an operator who balances strong organizational and planning skills with a pragmatic approach to running a testing lab, and has experience as a service journalist helping people find the best products for the home cook. You are passionate about kitchen equipment and ingredients, respect rigorous testing processes, and are motivated to deliver practical information to ATK audiences to make their cooking experiences better every day.
The Sr. Director, Reviews will manage a team of approximately 8‑10 reviews specialists, and will report to the VP, Editorial Strategy.
Core Responsibilities Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute a comprehensive reviews strategy across ATK’s platforms, thinking holistically about all the ways that reviews content can provide value to ATK audiences
Audit existing Reviews operation and establish a roadmap to enhance offering
Partner closely with the VP, Editorial Strategy and the Chief Content Officer to ensure strategic creative alignment
Help meet ATK’s business goals, in particular accelerating the growth of digital subscribers for the company
Operational Management:
Oversee the on‑site testing lab to ensure it is a well‑oiled machine used for equipment testing and ingredient taste tests
Optimize testing operations, workflows, and processes to support greater scalability
Manage Reviews editorial operations ensuring the highest journalistic standards
Oversee team budget and forecasting
Collaboration with Product, Design and Dev. Teams:
Constantly evaluate how best to provide value to audience with ATK reviews content
Help ideate on incredible content experiences across formats, including how to integrate equipment and ingredient functionality within the ATK site and app
Reimagine the use of video and photography in reviews experiences
Modernize back‑end publishing tools
Incorporate publishing‑focused AI and SEO tasks into operational decisions to enhance discoverability
Additional Cross‑Team Collaboration:
Liaise with content leads across digital, TV, video, and print
Partner with Marketing such that Reviews content aligns with and informs ATK’s marketing and promotional efforts
Partner with the Affiliate Commerce team to provide value to customers with relevant, organic content while maximizing affiliate revenue
Build and mentor high‑performing Reviews team grounded in accountability
Develop an environment where team members innovate and experiment with content formats, distribution, messaging, visuals and more
Lead, mentor and foster professional growth and development for Reviews team members
Skills and Experience At least 7+ years of experience in reviews editorial and/or operational roles
At least 4+ years of experience managing teams
Experience in a testing, research, and process‑oriented environment
Keen understanding of how successful content strategy impacts every facet of the digital business including product, design, tech, marketing, social, commerce, and more
Experience working on apps, websites and/or digital platforms and products
Strong quantitative skills, and the ability to translate content performance metrics into actionable insights
Understanding of the value of photos, graphics, animations, and other visuals to enhance quality storytelling
Experience successfully managing budgets
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong understanding of the food and cooking media space
Familiarity with subscription businesses a plus
Location: This role is based in our Boston, MA headquarters in the Seaport District. It is the expectation that the person in this role will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) in the office and 2 days per week remotely.
Salary Range:
$140,000 to $160,000
The range provided is based on what we reasonably expect to pay for this job as of the time of posting. The actual salary offered will be determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, job‑related knowledge, skills, geographical location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
