Title: Email Strategy Content Designer V
Duration: 12+months contract (High chance of Extension)
Location: Remote PST Preferred
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Range: $75/hr to $80/hr (DOE)
DESCRIPTION Our Growth team is seeking a Senior Content Designer to lead content development and strategy for our email program. This CW will focus on evolving a B2C lifecycle email system that supports awareness, retention, and resurrection-with an emphasis on clear, user-centered messaging and a rigorous experimentation practice. The ideal candidate is a hybrid strategist-maker: someone who can write and design excellent email content, translate lifecycle strategy into buildable requirements, and own the creation of governance and a scalable playbook so the program can grow responsibly across devices and product lines.
RESPONSIBILITIES • Drive email optimization • Iterate on content, targeting, sequencing, and cadence based on prior learnings and performance. • Improve modular email components (subject/preheader/body/CTA patterns) to increase speed and quality of iteration. • Improve + expand resurrection efforts • Improve emails supporting the portfolio of Wearables devices and identify opportunities for improvements that enable the team to meet and exceed goals. • Develop and execute ~5-6 experiments (e.g., positioning, content depth, personalization, cadence, segmentation, creative system changes). • Define hypotheses, success metrics, guardrails, and document learnings to compound results over time. • Extend email strategy to all new devices • Ensure messaging consistency and quality as we scale to new device cohorts and surfaces. • Partner with Product design, Product Management, Product Marketing and Engineering to align on eligibility logic, suppression rules, and QA requirements.
Job Description • Own governance + playbook creation • Draft guardrails and streamline governance for email distribution (targeting, frequency caps, suppression, content quality standards, and approval paths). • Define a Wearables Growth Email Playbook, including: • What "warrants discovery" (decision framework for when to email vs not email, and when to use alternative channels) • Lifecycle principles and stage-based guidance • Experimentation standards (how we test; what we don't test; how we read results) • Templates and content modules (subject/preheader patterns, body structures, CTA rules) • QA checklist (links, rendering, fallbacks, personalization tokens, localization/accessibility considerations) • Measurement basics (primary/secondary metrics, holdout guidance where applicable) • Reassess onboarding series strategy • Current lifecycle/onboarding series is neutral (not driving value, not detracting). • Evaluate whether onboarding email should exist as a product experience, and if so, propose a clearer strategy: • audience definition, stage goals, triggers, messaging system, cadence, and success metrics • Recommend redesign, consolidation, or deprecation based on evidence and constraints. • Cross-functional collaboration • Partner closely with Product, Growth, Data Science/Analytics, Engineering, Design, and Legal/Privacy partners. • Translate strategy into crisp requirements (event triggers, audience definitions, dynamic content rules, fallbacks, QA cases).
YOU'RE A GOOD FIT IF... • You've led lifecycle email strategies for B2C companies (awareness → retention → winback), ideally in a high-scale environment. • You can operate independently: create direction, align partners, and drive execution independently. • You have strong craft in conversion-focused email writing (subject/preheader, hierarchy, skimmability, CTA clarity, tone control). • You're fluent in lifecycle fundamentals: • Lifecycle mapping (stages, entry/exit criteria, goals) • Segmentation design (behavior-based cohorts + suppression logic) • Journey design (triggers vs campaigns, sequencing, frequency strategy) • You have an optimization mindset: • hypothesis-driven experimentation, clean readouts, and durable learnings documentation • You can work effectively with a home-grown stack: • write specs engineers can implement; understand constraints; maintain quality through QA rigor
Job Description • You understand deliverability basics and email health: • reputation, frequency discipline, unsubscribe/spam guardrails, sunset policies • You communicate clearly, manage stakeholders well, and thrive in ambiguous problem spaces.
NICE TO HAVE • Experience owning governance frameworks/playbooks for scaled messaging programs. • Familiarity with incremental measurement approaches (holdouts, lift, novelty effects). • Experience with consumer hardware ecosystems and multi-device communication patterns. • Accessibility and localization experience for email.
REQUIRED • Exceptional writing, editing, and content judgment. • Demonstrated lifecycle/CRM or comparable scaled communications experience. • Strong project management and cross-functional leadership. • Figma proficiency (for content structure, modules, and reviews).
Benefits Info Russell Tobin offers eligible employee's comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision plans), supplemental coverage (accident insurance, critical illness insurance and hospital indemnity), 401(k)-retirement savings, life & disability insurance, an employee assistance program, legal support, auto, home insurance, pet insurance and employee discounts with preferred vendors.
