Technical Writer - DoD Proposals & CDRLs
Position Title: Technical Writer - DoD Proposals & CDRLs
Department/Location: Business Development / Oklahoma City (Midtown), OK (or Remote, if applicable)
Status: Regular / Full-Time Non-Exempt
Primary Function:
The Technical Writer supports the full lifecycle of DoD proposal development and contract data deliverables, with primary responsibility for authoring, editing, and managing compliant documentation in support of DoD-style proposals, Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), and post-award deliverables. This role collaborates closely with Capture Managers, Program Managers, Engineers, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure all documentation aligns with RFP instructions, FAR/DFARS requirements, and applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
Essential Responsibilities: Write, review, and edit DoD-style proposal content (technical, management, past performance, and executive summaries). Develop and manage CDRL deliverables in accordance with DD Form 1423, SOW/SOO/PWS, and applicable DIDs. Ensure strict RFP and Section L/M compliance, including formatting, instructions, and evaluation criteria. Translate complex technical and engineering concepts into clear, concise, evaluator-focused documentation. Coordinate with engineers, program managers, and SMEs to collect, integrate, and refine technical inputs. Maintain proposal compliance matrices and support color team reviews to ensure quality and compliance. Manage document versions, schedules, and milestones to support on-time proposal and contract deliverable submissions. Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. 3-7+ years of experience supporting DoD or federal government contracts as a technical writer. U.S. Citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Demonstrated experience with: o DoD proposals (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs)
o CDRLs and DD Form 1423
o Data Item Descriptions (DIDs)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word (styles, templates, TOCs) and Microsoft Office Suite. Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. Preferred Requirements:
Active DoD security clearance. Experience with FAR/DFARS-driven documentation. Familiarity with Shipley or similar proposal methodologies. Background supporting engineering, systems, or defense programs. Experience working as a Government Contractor. Experience using SharePoint, proposal automation tools, or document management systems.
Work Conditions:
Office environment with extended periods of focused writing and editing. Fast-paced, deadline-driven proposal and contract delivery schedules. Occasional travel may be required for program or customer support.
