About the Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement.

MoMA Summer 2026 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2026 in order to apply.

All summer intern applications are due by Sunday, March 1st by 11:59 PM EST.

Department Projects & Tasks

The intern will focus on developing evergreen social media content rooted in MoMA’s collection. The role emphasizes research, writing, and light asset assembly to create a bank of flexible, timeless posts that can be published at any time. The position prioritizes curiosity, reliability, and a genuine interest in modern and contemporary art - as well as the pulse of culture that can be reflected in Social First content.

Projects will include developing a robust library of evergreen social posts tied to MoMA’s collection and artists; creating content that helps maintain a consistent social presence during non-campaign periods; supporting long-term content planning with real-time production; and strengthening MoMA’s ability to tell ongoing stories about its collection in social first, accessible, engaging ways.

Department Skillset Requirements

Candidates should have:

Strong writing and editing skills for digital and social platforms Passion for art history and familiarity with modern and contemporary art Ability to research artworks and translate curatorial information into engaging, accessible copy Organizational skills and comfort working within content templates and guidelines Basic familiarity with social media platforms and content formats
