Outdoor Recreation Specialists
Outdoor Recreation Specialists are outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic team members who are comfortable leading outdoor recreation activities for the public and private groups as well as Greenway Summer Camps. Primary responsibilities will be facilitation of specialty outdoor rec activities for summer camps such as kayaking, archery, and mountain biking. Schedule is MondayThursday or TuesdayFriday plus a weekend day and/or evenings as needed; average 30-35 hours/week. This is a seasonal position spanning from early May through mid-August with opportunities for additional employment in the Spring and Fall. Outdoor Recreation Specialists must attend all mandatory staff training sessions or make arrangements prior to being hired. Training dates are: May 12-15 from 6:00pm-9:00pm May 19-21 from 5:00pm-9:00pm May 22-23 from 9:00am-4:00pm May 26-27 from 12:00pm-9:00pm May 28-30 from 9:00am-4:00pm *Training dates/times are subject to change Pay Rate: $13.00/hour Key Functions Facilitation of outdoor recreation activities during Greenway Summer Camp season. Outdoor Recreation Specialists will train with the Outdoor Programs team as well as Summer Camp leadership to be specialist counselors for specialized activities including: Archery Kayaking/Corcle Mountain Biking Fishing Disc Golf Airsoft Range Teambuilding Outdoor Recreation Specialists may also facilitate private and public group activities including but not limited to: Kayak and Paddleboard tours & rentals Campouts, birthday parties, and other outdoor rec activities Assist in organization of group and discipline in relation to the specialized activity Maintain high standards of safety and security to prevent accidents and to respond appropriately in emergency situations Adhere to all camp specialized protocols and procedures and ensure compliance with ACA (American Camp Association) standards in applicable areas Cares diligently for all outdoor rec equipment, making sure it is put away tidily and carefully and reports any repairs needed. Adheres to all Company policies, procedures and standards set by the Company Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have a passion for the outdoors. Previous experience leading outdoor recreation activities is strongly preferred Above average public relations skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a wide variety of people (staff, members, visiting guest) and circumstances in a professional manner Above average group management skills. Must be able to engage small and large groups of children, youth, and adults Must be reliable, professional, trustworthy and take incentives to make decisions independently. Must be a comfortable swimmer and feel confident around natural bodies of water Must be comfortable teaching people who have varying levels of experience in different outdoor activities Preferably have knowledge of local flora and fauna The LSC Way Be Vigilant about Safety Think Team First Be Relentless about Improvement Honor Commitments Keep Things Fun Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old High school diploma, or equivalent Previous experience working with children preferred. Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child and Youth Protection prevention training; will train Must be available weekends and holidays and attend staff meetings on time. Must be able to work a majority of the summer. All camp staff get one consecutive week off during the summer. Must participate in USA Archery Level 1 Archery Instructor Training, and other in-house trainings as needed. All trainings will be provided. Reporting To This Position No supervisory responsibilities Physical Requirements Some physical requirements of an Outdoor Recreation Summer Camp Specialist position could be endurance including prolonged standing, bending, hiking long distances, biking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or a significant amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects when needed. Daily exposure to inconsistent weather conditions such as sun, heat, or rain and animals such as bugs and snakes, etc. is possible. Must be able to operate paddle craft with reasonable accommodations.
