Position Summary
The Communications Specialist develops and manages marketing and communications plans for the College that include the implementation of marketing, advertising, promotional, and public relations efforts in support of the College's strategic plan. The Communication Specialist writes and designs printed and published content/materials and coordinates a variety of other marketing communications projects under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of The Foundation, the Communication Specialist develops creative content for donor solicitations, manages the annual giving campaign, coordinates the promotion of scholarship program, and assists with special event planning and special assignments/projects. Essential Job Functions
Marketing and Communications: Develop written content for marketing communication vehicles such as news releases, digital media, printed materials, social media and integrated communications campaigns. Promote a positive image and external public's perception of the College by preparing press releases, managing newsletters, events calendar, serving as a primary point of contact for media inquiries, and coordinating specialized, integrated communication campaigns for college programs and events. Develop and manage content on the college's social media platforms and on the college website via the college's content management system to enhance communication with the public as well as specific target groups. Collaborate with other departments on projects and events by coordinating advertising, resources, and expertise related to needs assessments, marketing, and communications. Establish priorities, make assignments, and evaluate results. Design printed/published communications materials/content for the college including, but not limited to, catalogs, schedules, handbooks, brochures, fliers, and posters. Serves as an editor and proofreader for marketing communications copy. Conducts quality control over College branding and external communication, and ensures adherence with Marketing and Communication guidelines and brand policies. Oversees and maintains an organized, electronic system for coordinating the intake and completion of all college communications projects handled by the Office of marketing and Communications. Runs weekly production meetings for Office of Marketing and Communications. Develops and coordinates annual marketing and communications efforts for the College that include student-focused events, alumni relations, special events, and marketing and communication initiatives in support of the strategic plan. Assists in developing themes, coordinating necessary promotional activities, and identifying and securing literature, giveaways and volunteers for appropriate coverage. Annual Giving
Plan and execute a comprehensive annual giving program including, establishing measurable goals, budget, themes, target audiences, and developing strategies to improve the response rate for online and print solicitations. Creative content development is an essential function of this position. Through interviews with students, alumni, business and community leaders, and other means, develop powerful narratives that can be scaled for print and online mediums, customized for different target audiences, and integrated into the college's marketing efforts and Foundation's fundraising strategy. Work with the Office of Marketing and Communications to develop all printed materials and publications in support of the annual giving programs. Provide staff support to The Foundation Annual Giving Committee, including preparing agendas, recording minutes, and developing and leveraging the committee to guide the annual giving plan. Scholarships and Special Events
Lead the promotion of The Foundation's Scholarship Program, including publicity and marketing and applicant engagement. Provide staff support to The Foundation Scholarship Committee, including preparing agendas and recording minutes. Develop, recommend, and implement continuous improvements to the scholarship award process. As time permits, assist with the coordination and execution of The Foundation's special events and fundraisers, including preparing site contract negotiations, theme selections, recruiting volunteers, producing event publicity materials, and soliciting and maintaining correspondence with sponsors. Execute responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and the College's policies, which includes the Code of Ethics. Proactively contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.
