The SBI does so by conducting criminal investigations of allegations in areas of jurisdiction including narcotics, arson, election laws, misuse of state property, environmental crimes, human trafficking, child sexual abuse in day care centers, and threats made against public officials. The SBI provides support to local agencies related to computer crime investigations, use of force investigations, deaths in custody, crime scenes, financial crimes, missing and endangered persons, public corruption, cold cases, K9, special response team, bomb squad, and air wing. The SBI serves as North Carolina's repository of information on criminal history records, fingerprint identification, expungements, sex offender registry, and concealed handgun permits. The SBI manages the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC), which is the fusion center for the state of North Carolina, as well as the Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit, which assesses and manages threats of mass violence.**Description of Work**This Criminal Justice Specialist/Investigator I position is located within the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC) of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and will be assigned to the Coastal District Office located in Jacksonville, NC (Onslow County). Job responsibilities include the following:
- Provides direct tactical and operational intelligence support to their assigned district SBI office, SBI special agents, the ISAAC, and other federal, state, local, tribal & territorial law enforcement partners by making analytical inferences and deductions from a vast array of intelligence sources pertaining to criminal activities and organizations.
- Creates professional products to support the criminal investigations of their district, as well as to address any new or emerging threats or crime trends within their area of responsibility.
- Serves as a liaison amongst the ISAAC, the SBI, and other internal and external partner agencies, and will be required to present professionally on the ISAAC and SBI initiatives, as well as current topics or intelligence relevant to partner agencies.
This is an entry level position and will be under direct supervision to perform selected criminal intelligence case work at a developmental level. This individual is assigned case work which is designed to introduce beginning analysts to the diversity of criminal cases, the intelligence cycle, the types of intelligence, and the importance of analytical support. Obtaining Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Network certification within 6 months of hire is required for this position.
