Job Summary

The Senior Estimator operates with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams, frequently serving as the principal point of contact with the design team and the owner. Senior estimators are capable of leading all types of project delivery methods and have demonstrated competence in basic and advanced estimating functions. Desired estimating disciplines include underground utilities, earthwork, paving, and structures on transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects. Successful candidates will prepare detailed take-offs, solicit quotes, develop cost estimates, and close out bids.

Key Responsibilities

1. Advanced level HCSS knowledge of estimate entry and quote system tools.\n2. Estimate all scopes related to their discipline area of expertise.\n3. Perform detailed quantity take-offs on bid items and materials in order to develop all-inclusive cost estimates.\n4. Estimate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection.\n5. Participate in detailed reviews, providing thorough explanation of estimate.\n6. Utilization of relevant cost history database to verify production rates.\n7. Prepare supplier bid packages to ensure that self-performed work has competitive material quotes.\n8. Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation processes.\n9. Assist in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment and subcontractors.

• Mass Earthwork and Grading\no Geotechnical report review - dewatering, blasting, and ripping requirements.\no Earthwork flow, mass haul diagrams, project phasing.\no Scraper, dozer, truck, loader, and excavator productions.\n• Aggregates, PCCP Paving, Asphalt Paving\no Identification of quarries and pits suitable for project use.\no Production of aggregate, asphalt, and concrete through various methods.\no Understanding of incentives, penalties, and PWLs.\n• Underground Utilities\no Trench protection and shoring.\no Excavator methods and equipment selection.\no Quantification of mechanical assemblies such as valves and fire hydrants.\no Analysis and pricing of backfill methods and materials.\n• Bridges and Structures\no Falsework and formwork systems.\no Post tensioning, precast yards, and foundations.\no Crane selection, erection of precast elements and cast in place techniques.

Minimum Job Requirements

1. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.\n2. Preferred candidates will have obtained their LEED accreditation and DBIA certification, or express willingness to obtain.\n3. Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.\n4. Ten or more years of experience in an estimating role include underground utilities, earthwork, paving, and structures on transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects.\n5. Successful history executing projects as the prime point of contact with minimal oversight for project teams.\n6. Ideal candidates will have project experience in one or more key market sectors identified by the business unit.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Civil Earthwork Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil projects, including mass excavations with shoring, site development, and large-scale grading operations. This role requires a deep understanding of production rates, equipment utilization, and civil construction practices

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review project plans, specifications, and geotechnical data to prepare complete and accurate earthwork estimates\nPerform detailed quantity takeoffs for excavation, embankment, mass haul, subgrade preparation, and related work\nAnalyze production rates, cycle times, haul distances, and optimize equipment spreads for efficiency\nDevelop detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work\nSolicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors\nPrepare comprehensive bid packages and proposals for public and private sector clients (DOT, Caltrans, municipal, and infrastructure)\nCollaborate with operations, field supervision, and project management to ensure bid accuracy and feasibility\nUse estimating tools such as Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, and internal cost databases\nParticipate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and constructability reviews

QUALIFICATIONS:\nEducation:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)\nExperience: Minimum 10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil earthwork and infrastructure projects\nStrong knowledge of mass grading, haul planning, cut/fill balancing, and soil classification\nProficient in reading and interpreting civil and structural drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports\nHands-on experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, and Bluebeam Revu\nStrong analytical, communication, and organizational skills\nAbility to work independently and manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
