Position Summary

The Associate Director of Grants is a senior, writing-forward role responsible for leading pre-award public funding strategy and serving as a primary proposal writer for complex and high-impact government grants. This position works in close partnership with the Director of Grants, who remains a significant contributor to proposal writing, particularly for the organization's largest and most strategic opportunities.

The Associate Director brings deep technical expertise in public funding, leads public grant prospecting and research, and drafts and coordinates competitive proposals aligned with CISCT's strategic priorities. While this role contributes to grant strategy and provides thought leadership in the public funding space, it remains a hands- on, writing-forward position with opportunities for leadership through complex project ownership and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do

Public Funding Strategy & Prospecting (Pre-Award)

Lead pre-award public funding prospecting efforts, including federal, state and local opportunities
Monitor public funding trends, policy shifts, and procurement pipelines relevant to education, mental health, student supports, and youth development
Conduct in-depth research to assess opportunity fit, competitiveness, and capacity requirements
Coordinate with CIS National's grants team to stay aligned with network-wide public funding strategy, guidance, and opportunities
Participate in RFP workshops, information sessions, and webinars, translating learnings into actionable recommendations
Advise the Director of Grants on public funding opportunities, feasibility, risks, and strategic alignment

Grant Writing & Proposal Development

Serve as lead writer for many complex and technically demanding public grant proposals
Draft full proposal narratives or major sections of large public grants, often in collaboration with the Director of Grants
Translate program models, outcomes, and budgets into clear, compelling, and compliant narratives
Coordinate with program, finance, evaluation, and operations staff to develop scopes of work, budgets, and required attachments
Ensure proposals are responsive to funder priorities, clearly articulated, and aligned with CISCT's strategic
goals
Collaboration & Proposal Transition
Partner closely with the Director of Grants on proposal positioning, messaging, and prioritization
Collaborate with the Grants Manager to ensure strong handoff from awarded proposals into post-award compliance and reporting
Draft proposal narratives with clear attention to future reporting requirements, measurable outcomes, and deliverables
Respond to funder questions related to proposal content or narrative intent as needed
Team & Organizational Support
Support private foundation proposals and reports during peak cycles or surge periods
Contribute to the refinement of grants templates, tools, and internal processes
Build strong cross-functional relationships to support effective grants development
Promote agency culture, standards, and systems
Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem-solving
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Grants or Chief Development Officer

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Minimum of five (5) years of professional grant writing experience, with significant experience in public sector grants or contracts
Demonstrated success securing government funding in education, social services, or related fields
Exceptional technical writing skills and ability to manage complex, compliance-driven proposals
Strong research skills and comfort navigating public funding systems and procurement processes
Ability to synthesize complex information and make strategic recommendations
Experience collaborating across departments and contributing to shared writing efforts

Associate Director of Data Strategy and Impact

to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of the organization's data ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, systems, and student success and ensures data is leveraged as a core organizational asset, not a back‑office function.

The Associate Director will oversee data infrastructure anchored in Salesforce, strengthen data governance and analytics, and partner with leadership to translate information into actionable insight. This position is ideal for a collaborative leader who thrives in complexity, balances strategy with execution, and is motivated by measurable impact on students and communities.

This position is based in our Austin administrative office, with the potential for one (1) hybrid work‑from‑home day per week.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information systems, data management, or a related field.

Minimum of two (2) years of Salesforce administration experience, including:\nCustom objects and relationships

Formula fields and Flow automations

Lightning page layouts and intermediate system configurations

Minimum of two (2) years of people management experience, including staff supervision and team development.

Strong understanding of data administration, governance, and reporting best practices.

Experience developing policies and procedures related to data quality, security, and compliance.

Ability to synthesize complex technical information and communicate clearly to non‑technical audiences.

Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

Experience in nonprofit, education, or social service organizations.

Salesforce Administrator Certification.

Experience with Salesforce NPSP and Program Management Module (PMM).

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualization.

The Senior Director of College, Career, and Military Readiness

(CCMR) provides strategic leadership for Communities In Schools of Central Texas’ continuum of programs that prepare students for success beyond high school. This role brings together CIS’s college and career readiness initiatives—spanning K– 12 curriculum, high school mentorship, and alumni support—into a coordinated vision known as CIS Launch, Lift, Lead. Through these interconnected programs, the Senior Director ensures students are equipped to explore their goals, navigate transitions, and thrive in college, career, or military pathways.

Programs Under Leadership\nCIS Launch : Ready to Rise– K–12 curriculum and experiences that help students explore careers, set goals, and build academic and social-emotional skills for life after graduation.

CIS Lift : Young Men Rising (Male Student Achievement Program)– mentorship and leadership development for high school boys and young men, supporting academic achievement and postsecondary readiness.

CIS Lead : Next Step– alumni and postsecondary transition support for recent graduates pursuing college, career, or military paths.

Partnership with CIS Lift : College Together– collaboration with the postsecondary persistence team to ensure continuity of support for CIS alumni in college.

What You’ll Do\nStrategy & Leadership

Develop and implement multi-year strategic and sustainability plans for all CCMR programs within the Launch, Lift, Lead continuum.

Ensure alignment across K–12, and postsecondary programs to create a seamless pathway of support.

Champion data-driven improvement and program excellence rooted in CIS’s relationship-based model.

Program Management & Quality

Supervise and coach program directors and managers leading Ready to Rise, Young Men Rising, and Next Step.

Oversee program design, implementation, and evaluation to ensure measurable outcomes in academic achievement, college readiness, and postsecondary success.

Lead workforce development initiatives and manage relationships with key partners and vendors.

Partnership & Collaboration

Collaborate with the Postsecondary Support Team, district partners, higher education institutions, and community organizations to expand access to postsecondary opportunities.

Represent CISCT’s CCMR vision in external networks, partnerships, and funding opportunities.

Innovation & Culture

Foster a culture of continuous learning, creativity, and responsiveness.

Establish short and long-range priorities, objectives and goals that lead to high-quality, year-round workforce development and post-secondary support services for students

Collaboratively create the CIS CCMR strategic plan and oversee implementation and sustainability plans for college, career, and military readiness services and workforce development programs and college-based programs and services.

Identify and implement program targets, goals and work plans

Work with the accounting department and program directors to develop and implement CCMR & MSAP budgets, monitor expenditures, and authorize purchases

Keep current in state and federal rules, regulations, and policies related to the area(s) of college and technical education (CTE), CCMR, training practices and trends in the labor market

Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem-solving

Promote and maintain agency culture, values, and systems

Perform other activities and duties as required by the Regional Director or Chief Executive Officer

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree with a major in social work, higher education, youth development, and education, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.

5+years of experience related to any of the following areas: workforce development, post-secondary success, public education, educational program administration, policy analysis, or project management relevant to secondary and/or post-secondary education

Demonstrated ability to strategize, design, implement, and evaluate programs to drive impact and improve postsecondary outcomes

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and procedures relating to college, career, and military readiness

Working knowledge of Texas Education Agency College, Career, and Military Readiness Indicators

Skilled in strategic planning with schools, colleges, and communities to close gaps and achieve measurable improvements, specifically increasing high school graduation rates and post-secondary attainment

Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Demonstrated experience leading change management initiatives

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships to effectively collaborate with CIS staff, school personnel and community partners

Demonstrated ability to support and further a data-informed culture
