Job Summary

The Medical Only Claim Representative manages a designated caseload of Nevada workers' compensation medical-only claims for a multi-account desk. This role focuses on accurate, timely, and compliant claim handling, ensuring strong documentation, customer service, and file progression.

This position may support career development toward an intermediate-level adjusting role.

This is a true workers' compensation adjuster position responsible for managing claimsnot an HR or consulting role.

Responsibilities

We hire adjusters who take ownership, communicate with purpose, and move files with integrity and accuracy.

Set up and manage Nevada medical-only workers' compensation claims in accordance with corporate claim standards and statutory requirements.
Establish reserves and/or provide reserve recommendations within assigned authority levels under supervision.
Review, approve, and negotiate medical and miscellaneous invoices related to assigned claims.
Request, track, and monitor medical treatment to ensure timely and appropriate care.
Maintain accurate and timely claim documentation, including detailed log notes and diary management.
Summarize medical records and correspondence and ensure documentation is properly filed.
Participate in claim reviews and collaborate with client service teams.
Close claim files when appropriate and retrieve/return closed files to storage as needed.
Maintain compliance with Nevada regulations, corporate Best Practices, and client-specific handling instructions.

Qualifications

NV Adjuster License (or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
Associate Degree or two (2) years of related business experience
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain accurate, timely documentation and purposeful file movement

Nice to Have

Knowledge of medical terminology
Prior experience in workers' compensation or claims administration
Industry certifications or CEU credits supporting licensure
Experience supporting multi-account claims desks

Compensation & Compliance

The posted salary reflects CCMSI's good-faith estimate in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and internal equity. This role may also qualify for bonuses or additional forms of pay.

Associate Claim Rep, Workers Compensation

Travelers' Claim Organization is at the heart of our business by providing assurance to our customers and their employees in their time of need. The Travelers Workers Compensation Claim team is committed to partnering with our business insurance customers to help their injured employees return to work as soon as medically appropriate. As an Associate Claim Rep, Workers Compensation, you will receive comprehensive training in claim handling, customer service, and policy interpretation while working alongside experienced claim professionals. This position focuses on developing your skills and knowledge to successfully manage workers compensation claims. This program can typically last up to 12 months and upon successful completion of this program you will have the skills needed to handle claims independently and progress toward full claims handling responsibility. As part of the hiring process, this position will require the completion of an online pre-employment assessment. Further information regarding the assessment including an accommodation process, if needed, will be provided at such time as your candidacy is deemed appropriate for further consideration.

What Will You Do?

Actively participate in structured training classes covering insurance policies, specific claim processes, systems, and procedures, including virtual, classroom, and on-the-job training.
Assist in reviewing, investigating, and documenting Workers Compensation claims under close supervision.
Investigate, develop, and evaluate action plans for claim resolution. Assess coverage and determine if a claim is compensable under Workers Compensation including evaluating claims for potential fraud.
Participate in Telephonic and/or onsite File Reviews.
Learn how to determine coverage, compensability, and exposure based on policy terms and claim facts.
Gather information from policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and third-party providers.
Communicate and apprise all parties regarding claim status which may include our business customers, injured employees, medical providers, and legal counsel.
Maintain accurate records of claim activity in claim management systems.
Achieve a positive result by returning an injured party to work when appropriate. This may include coordinating medical treatment in collaboration with internal or external resources.
Demonstrate openness to continuous learning, particularly in AI and digital transformation.
Acquire and maintain relevant Insurance License(s) to comply with state and Travelers' requirements within three months of starting the job.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What Is a Must Have?

High School Diploma or GED.
One year of customer service experience OR Bachelor's Degree.

Job Description

Currently seeking a Workers Compensation Lost Time Claim Examiner for our West Coast/Pacific region. The successful applicant will be handling claims from California. The position will report and reside in our Los Angeles CA

Duties Responsibilities:

- Handles all aspects of workers compensation lost time claims from set-up to case closure ensuring strong customer relations are maintained throughout the process.

- Reviews claim and policy information to provide bg for investigation.

- Conducts 3-part ongoing investigations obtaining facts and taking statements as necessary with insured claimant and medical providers.

- Evaluates the facts gathered through the investigation to determine compensability of the claim.

- Informs insureds claimants and attorneys of claim denials when applicable.

- Prepares reports on investigation settlements denials of claims and evaluations of involved parties etc.

- Timely administration of statutory medical and indemnity benefits throughout the life of the claim.

- Sets reserves within authority limits for medical indemnity and expenses and recommends reserve changes to Team Leader throughout the life of the claim.

- Reviews the claim status at regular intervals and makes recommendations to Team Leader to discuss problems and remedial actions to resolve them.

- Prepares and submits to Team Leader unusual or possible undesirable exposures when encountered.

- Works with attorneys to manage hearings and litigation

- Controls and directs vendors nurse case managers telephonic cases managers and rehabilitation managers on medical management and return to work initiatives.

- Complies with customer service requests including Special Claims Handling procedures file status notes and claim reviews.

- Files workers compensation forms and electronic data with states to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.

- Refers appropriate claims to subrogation and secures necessary information to ensure that recovery opportunities are maximized.

- Works with in-house Technical Assistants Special Investigators Nurse

- Consultants Telephonic Case Managers as well as Team Supervisors to exceed customer's expectations for exceptional claims handling service.

- Technical Skills Competencies:

- Lost Time Claim Examiner position with prior experience in workers compensation as a lost time examiner.

- Requires basic knowledge of workers compensation statutes regulations and compliance.

- Ability to incorporate data analytics and modeling into daily activities to expedite fair and equitable resolution of claims and claim issues.

Experience Education Requirements:

- Experience working in a customer focused fast-paced fluid environment

- Experience utilizing strong communication and telephonic skills

- Prior experience requiring a high level of organization follow-up and accountability

- Prior workers compensation claim handling experience or other similar type of claim handling experience is required healthcare short-term / long-term disability auto personal injury protection / medical injury or general liability.

- Prior insurance legal or corporate business experience is a plus but not required

- AIC RMA or CPCU completed coursework or designations is a plus but not required

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products

- Knowledge of medical terminology is required

- Knowledge of bill processing is required

- Certification to handle CA Workers Compensation claims is required

- Experience handling claims in the states of CO UT NV and AZ preferred

- If you do not already have one you will be required to obtain an applicable resident or designated home state adjusters license and possibly additional state licensure.
