Job Overview\nJensen Hughes is seeking an experienced Sprinkler Design Consultant with a strong background in water‑based fire suppression systems. This role will support a fast‑paced project through consulting, design, review, and field oversight activities at the TSMC facility in North Phoenix. The position requires technical depth, sound judgment, and the ability to interface effectively with clients.

The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, review, and implementation of automatic sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related suppression systems, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities\nDesign, Consulting, and Technical Oversight

Lead or support the design and layout of automatic fire sprinkler systems for a variety of facility types in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and project requirements

Generate fire suppression specifications for water‑based fire protection systems

Perform or review hydraulic calculations, material take‑offs, and system sizing, including fire pumps and controllers

Review, evaluate, and prepare sprinkler shop drawing submittal packages produced by contractors

Review design drawings for sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and special suppression systems, including foam systems, as applicable

Project Execution and Field Activities

Act as the owner’s representative for fire protection systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases

Conduct field surveys, inspections, and regular site walks to verify installation quality, fire safety, and code compliance

Support testing, commissioning, system acceptance, and emergent site needs, including witnessing tests and providing code interpretations

Coordinate with AHJs to support permitting, reviews, and project approvals

Client, Contractor, and Team Coordination

Provide technical consulting and guidance to clients, project managers, contractors, architects, and engineers

Plan and direct fire protection‑related engineering activities with a high level of contractor engagement

Assess, review, and approve contractor bids, change orders, and work costs related to fire protection systems

Prepare, present, and deliver clear, technically sound reports and recommendations to clients

Quality, Compliance, and Leadership

Support companywide QA/QC reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards

Mentor and support the professional development of junior designers, engineers, and consultants, as appropriate to level

Five (5) or more years of experience in fire protection system design or consulting, with emphasis on automatic sprinkler systems and fire pump design

Proficiency with industry‑standard design and calculation tools such as

AutoCAD, REVIT, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD , or similar software

Preferred Qualifications

Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including

NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25, 10, and 16

NICET Water‑Based Systems Layout Certification

preferred;

NICET Level IV

strongly preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent industry experience with a fire sprinkler contractor or fire protection consulting firm

Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes, life safety standards, and local jurisdictional requirements

Jensen Hughes is seeking an experienced Sprinkler Design Consultant with a strong background in water-based fire suppression systems. This role will support a fast-paced project through consulting, design, review, and field oversight activities at the TSMC facility in North Phoenix. The position requires technical depth, sound judgment, and the ability to interface effectively with clients. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, review, and implementation of automatic sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related suppression systems, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.\nKey Responsibilities

Design, Consulting, and Technical Oversight\nLead or support the design and layout of automatic fire sprinkler systems for a variety of facility types in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and project requirements\nGenerate fire suppression specifications for water-based fire protection systems\nPerform or review hydraulic calculations, material take-offs, and system sizing, including fire pumps and controllers\nReview, evaluate, and prepare sprinkler shop drawing submittal packages produced by contractors\nReview design drawings for sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and special suppression systems, including foam systems, as applicable\nProject Execution and Field Activities\nAct as the owner’s representative for fire protection systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases\nConduct field surveys, inspections, and regular site walks to verify installation quality, fire safety, and code compliance\nSupport testing, commissioning, system acceptance, and emergent site needs, including witnessing tests and providing code interpretations\nCoordinate with AHJs to support permitting, reviews, and project approvals\nClient, Contractor, and Team Coordination\nProvide technical consulting and guidance to clients, project managers, contractors, architects, and engineers\nPlan and direct fire protection–related engineering activities with a high level of contractor engagement\nAssess, review, and approve contractor bids, change orders, and work costs related to fire protection systems\nPrepare, present, and deliver clear, technically sound reports and recommendations to clients\nQuality, Compliance, and Leadership\nSupport companywide QA/QC reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards\nMentor and support the professional development of junior designers, engineers, and consultants, as appropriate to level\nMinimum Requirements

Five (5) or more years of experience in fire protection system design or consulting, with emphasis on automatic sprinkler systems and fire pump design\nProficiency with industry-standard design and calculation tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, or similar software\nPreferred Qualifications

Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25, 10, and 16\nNICET Water-Based Systems Layout Certification preferred; NICET Level IV strongly preferred\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent industry experience with a fire sprinkler contractor or fire protection consulting firm\nStrong working knowledge of NFPA codes, life safety standards, and local jurisdictional requirements\nExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong technical report writing\nStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting client and schedule commitments\nProfessional licensure in Fire Protection Engineering is a plus\nAdditional Considerations
