Local journalists founded Santa Cruz Local in 2019 to give residents an unbiased, fair and accurate source of local news and information. In 2023, we launched Noticias Watsonville, Spanish-language audio news on WhatsApp. In 2025, we launched News for Students on Instagram and through civic events at Cabrillo College.Read our strategic plan.\n\nWe strive to grow civic engagement through deep, fair and accurate reporting about local government, housing, health, transportation, the environment and other big issues in Santa Cruz County. We lift up voices not normally heard by local government or local media.\n\nWe want to:\n\nInform residents with responsive, useful civic news.\n\nConnect residents with basic needs through our relevant, timely and accurate information guides.\n\nShow residents how to participate in local government and that they can impact decisions.\n\nPush leaders on residents’ priorities and hold them accountable.\n\nInspire residents to join community groups and volunteer.\n\nThe challenge\nWe want to reach communities not otherwise well-served by local media: 18- to 29-year-old students at Cabrillo Community College, Spanish-speaking immigrants in the Pajaro Valley, and people with low incomes. Our journalism has to be immediately useful and relevant to capture residents’ attention on mobile phones and engage people on the issues.\n\nThe opportunity\nYour role would largely be centered on editing our social media content, but also our photos across all our products.\n\nMentor and manage our Social Media and Photo Journalist to build useful, relevant and timely videos, images and infographics for Instagram tailored for 18- to 29-year-old Cabrillo students.\n\nFact check and edit our visuals for accuracy, style, flow and clarity.\n\nEssential functions\n\nCoach our Photo and Social Media Journalist to produce engaging local news and information (including short, mobile videos and infographics) with sharp and compelling writing and visuals that will resonate with and help grow our target audience of 18- to 29-year-olds.\n\nEdit photos across all our products (including our website and newsletter) and work with our Managing Editor to develop a visual strategy.\n\nOptimize workflows for featuring reporters’ stories on social platforms in a consistent, effective way.\n\nWork mainly with our Photo and Social Media Journalist to create clear, concise visual stories. Family Medicine Residency Program Director

Dignity Health‑Dominican Hospital (Dominican) in Santa Cruz has an immediate opportunity for a Family Medicine (FM) Residency Program Director to lead our newly‑established and fully ACGME accredited program!

Position Summary

Dominican has partnered with Morehouse School of Medicine to bring a Family Medicine Residency program to the Santa Cruz communities. Our first class of residents started in July 2024, and we just welcomed our second class for orientation into our 8/8/8 program. The FM Residency Program Director will include leadership, administrative, teaching, scholarly, and patient care responsibilities, with authority and accountability for the overall program.

Position Description

Successfully oversee the ACGME accreditation process, and ensure ongoing maintenance of certification and compliance with ACGME requirements
Responsibility for all aspects of program development and growth
Develop high-quality educational curriculum and experiential rotations per ACGME requirements
Lead the interview, selection and ongoing mentoring and development of faculty physicians and staff
Lead the interview, selection and on‑going monitoring and evaluation of residents
Ensure effective program partnerships with hospital, clinics, and staff, and other stakeholders
Facilitate faculty and resident participation in scholarly activities
Maintain ongoing clinical duties and your own patient base

Experience / Education

Job Requirements

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in administrative, educational and/or clinical services in an ACGME accredited residency program required. Ideal candidates will have experience as a Core Faculty, Associate Director or Director of a Family Medicine Residency Training Program.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in teaching in a residency program preferred.
M.D. or D.O. degree required.
Board certified.
Operational management, including budget preparation, experience in administrative support of a department, and demonstrated ability to manage detailed projects.
History of scholarly activities and research.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
Creative thinking with a demonstrated passion for teaching and learning.
