Job Summary and Responsibilities Candidate must reside in Seattle Sound Region in WA State.

The responsibilities of this position are to facilitate, educate and communicate to patients Virginia Mason Medical Center's revenue cycle policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, responding to patient inquiries regarding all billing aspects of a hospital based medical facility as well as maximizing reimbursement of self‑pay receivables via payment schedules, assessment for in‑house charity programs or eligibility for state‑sponsored insurance plans. The position will proficiently perform duties as outlined below in one of the following areas: Patient Account Specialist or Patient Service Specialist.

Patient Account Specialist

In a high call volume setting, provides clarification and education to patients and researches patient billing inquiries.

Addresses a broad range of inquiries covering insurance regulation and processing protocols, charge coding discrepancies, benefit interpretation and adjudication.

Provides financial counseling both in advance and post‑receipt of services and assists with reimbursement for under or un‑insured individuals (including uncompensated care).

Collects on private receivables and may participate in collection agency processes (e.g., court appearances).

Acts as a resource to Virginia Mason Medical Center for organizational, state, federal and commercial reimbursement procedures and policies as they pertain to individual patient situations.

Job Requirements

Proven excellent customer service, communication, verbal and written skills with an emphasis on organization and attention to detail.

Ability to problem‑solve and multi‑task; keep confidences.

Knowledge of insurance concepts.

Demonstrated basic telephone skills (transfer, conference, placing a patient on hold).

Excel in a team‑based environment with a positive attitude.

Comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to be flexible.

Preferred

Knowledge of financial or Medicaid application assistance.

6 months in a previous call center.

Health care experience and medical terminology.

High school diploma or GED.

Pay Range $26.58 – $37.36 /hour
